Alluma Our Mission
Promote Wellbeing, Instill Hope. Alluma is an inclusive, nonprofit organization based in Crookston, Minnesota. We are open to everyone, anytime.

Alluma takes an uncommon community-based approach, integrating mental health and substance use care into overall wellbeing. Rooted in research and focused on relationships, we go above and beyond to build capacity in individuals and help clients get connected. Our story began in 1962 with a vision of building a community-based care system to ensure high-quality access to mental health services in the region. For nearly 60 years, we've provided evidence-based, client-focused care in northwestern Minnesota. Clients, teammates, caregivers, friends and families, and allies. You matter to Alluma, and we're here to help.

What does access to mental health care really look like in rural Minnesota? Sometimes, it looks like someone showing up at your door.

In a powerful op-ed published by the Minnesota Star Tribune, Kittson County Commissioner and Alluma Foundation founding director Theresia Gillie shares her deeply personal experience following the loss of her husband, Keith, to su***de — and the difference it made when an Alluma counselor came to her.

Her story is also an important reminder of why access to mental health and substance use care close to home matters, especially in rural communities.

Theresia writes about the role Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics, or CCBHCs, play in making that possible, and why she believes Congress should protect and strengthen this model of care.

We are grateful to Theresia for sharing her story and helping shine a light on the importance of accessible, community-based care.
