✨ Your career should have room for YOU.

Your professional life should support your growth, your goals, and your well-being—not leave you feeling like you need to recover from your work.

At OCD & Anxiety Treatment of Houston (OATH Therapy), we believe that “therapists deserve workplaces that support both professional development and personal well-being.” 🌱

Our newest blog explores what it means to build a sustainable therapy career through collaboration, mentorship, flexibility, clinical growth, and a supportive team environment.

💭 What would a career that truly supports you look like?

Contamination OCD is about more than cleanliness. 🧠

At its core, contamination OCD is driven by fear, uncertainty, and the need to feel safe—not by simply wanting things to be clean.

The cycle often looks like this:

🦠 Obsessions: “What if somebody gets sick?” “This feels contaminated.” “It’s disgusting.”

😣 Distress: Anxiety, discomfort, disgust, and strong urges to make the feeling go away.

🚫 Compulsions: Excessive washing, avoiding people or places, holding your breath, mentally tracking what others have touched, or seeking reassurance.

😮‍💨 Temporary relief: The anxiety eases... but only for a little while.

🔄 The cycle repeats: Because the brain learns that compulsions—not uncertainty—are what keep you safe.

The good news? Recovery is possible. Through ERP (Exposure and Response Prevention), you can learn to tolerate uncertainty, resist compulsions, and break the cycle over time. Every small step counts. 💙

MENTAL HEALTH FACT FRIDAY: 💚
This week’s fact: On average, people wait 11 years from the onset of symptoms before seeking mental health treatment.
Many people delay getting help because of stigma, fear, uncertainty, or the hope that things will get better on their own. But you don’t have to wait until you’re in crisis to seek support.
Early intervention can make a meaningful difference. Reaching out is a sign of strength, and taking that first step can lead to healthier coping skills, improved well-being, and lasting change.

mandel spoke to FORTUNE about his OCD journey, and, like always, he dropped some really wise, helpful gems of knowledge.

Howie has always been such a great OCD advocate, and these quotes show exactly why. Not only does Howie help so many people realize what they’re going through and recognize that they’re not alone—he also makes sure that people understand what the real OCD is. And why specialized treatment is so important.

💚Once again, thank you Howie for being such a powerful voice in our community and for always standing on business about the realities of OCD. You help so many people see that OCD won’t stop you from living a happy, fulfilling life.

💚Happy Saturday! Today’s post is a factual post that gives insight into the difference of anxiety or OCD.
Sometimes it is really hard to tell what is OCD and what is anxiety, especially when you have both.

One of the ways to try to figure out what you are dealing with is by looking ar what happens after the fear shows up.

Anxiety can make you overthink a fear, possibility, or uncertainty longer than you’d like. You might worry about it, feel uncomfortable, or have a hard time letting it go.

OCD takes the same fear or uncertainty and turns it into something that feels urgent to solve. Instead of sitting with the discomfort, research, confess, seek reassurance, replay memories, or do something else to get certainty and relief.

This is why the situation can look very different! The biggest clue? OCD involves compulsions. Anxiety does not.
