Butler County Health is one of 70 teams nationwide selected as a Phase 1 winner of the Cultivating Connected Communities Garden Challenge, a national competition run by the Administration for Community Living (ACL), part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The Cultivating Connected Communities Garden Challenge builds on the U.S. Department of Agriculture's The People's Garden initiative and supports the national Make America Healthy Again effort, which focuses on preventing chronic disease through better food access and community wellness. The team will receive $4,000 to add a sidewalk around the B*H community garden to increase accessibility to the garden for people with disabilities and older adults. Congratulations!

If you have a Medicare Advantage plan, now is the time to pay attention to changes for 2027. BlueCross BlueShield and Medica will not be selling Medicare Advantage plans to residents of Butler County for 2027. If you currently have one of these plans, you will need to choose different coverage for next year. Did you know about 10% of all new breast cancer cases in the U.S. are diagnosed in women younger than 45 years old? The American Cancer Society guidelines for women at average risk for breast cancer are:

• Women between 40 and 44 have the option to start screening with a mammogram every year.
• Women 45 to 54 should get mammograms every year.
• Women 55 and older can switch to a mammogram every other year, or they can choose to continue yearly mammograms. Screening should continue as long as a woman is in good health and is expected to live at least 10 more years.

Butler County Health Department hosted work-based learning experiences and mock interviews for students this summer. They make a difference by providing opportunities for individuals with disabilities!
