WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY
There are people who have spent years feeling like their choices are limited.
Stay on the medication. Add another medication. Learn to live with the side effects. Accept that this is as good as it gets.
People deserve more than that.
They deserve to be informed. To understand the potential benefits and risks of their medications. To know about possible side effects, dependence, withdrawal, and what discontinuation may involve. They deserve to ask questions, understand the alternatives available to them, and participate meaningfully in decisions about their own care.
For some, medication is helpful and remains an important part of treatment. For others, the path forward may look different.
No one should feel trapped in a treatment plan simply because they were never told what other options could exist.
This World Mental Health Day, we advocate for informed choice, better conversations, and mental healthcare that gives people a voice in what happens next.
You deserve to understand your treatment. You deserve to have a voice in it. And you deserve to know your options.
