"Nobody has been able to figure this out"

We hear a version of this in most first visits: "We know these are probably unrelated, but—"

And then out it all comes. The bloating. The dry skin patch on one elbow. The sinus thing that
never fully clears. Waking at three am every night. The headaches. The shoulder.

Six separate problems. Each one examined carefully by someone competent, and each one
came back mostly normal, or mostly manageable. And you walked out of every appointment
with the same feeling — that somebody should be looking at all of it at once, and nobody is.

That's why we do what we do. Chinese Medicine is a complete system that sees you as a whole
person. Not a collection of symptoms in isolation.

Chinese medicine isn't organized around body parts. It's organized around patterns — how a
whole system behaves under a particular kind of strain. So the fact that your gut, your skin, your
sinuses, and your immune barrier are all struggling in the same season isn't a coincidence to be
explained away. It's the diagnosis. Those are one system in this medicine. They fail together, in
a recognizable order, for recognizable reasons.

When we take your history I'm not collecting complaints. I'm looking for the shape they make. The shape tells me where to treat, and treating the shape is why six things improve when you come in about one.

It's also why we'll ask about your sleep when you come in for your knee.

Bring me the whole list. Including the parts you've stopped mentioning because nobody had
anywhere to put them.

Joint pain that's really a fluid problem

Your rings are stuck. You feel like a marshmallow.

Stiff for the first twenty minutes of the day, better once you move.

Puffy hands and feet, worse in the morning, worse after a day at a desk. Heavy limbs. Ankle
marks from your socks.

Your lymphatic system has no pump. It moves on muscle contraction, on breath, on the rhythm
of your day.

When you're sitting more than you're moving, when your breathing is shallow, when digestion
has gone sluggish — fluid pools. And it pools around joints. The joint gets compressed,
circulation drops, and the tissue turns stiff and sore without anything being structurally wrong
with it.

Chinese medicine has described this for a very long time as a dampness problem. And
dampness is a spleen and lung problem. These are the systems that govern fluid
transformation and the downward, outward movement of breath.

It's also exactly why this shows up right now. Late summer turning into fall is precisely when that
handoff strains, and puffy achy joints are one of the most common things walking through my
door in September.

It responds well, and it responds reasonably fast. Acupuncture moves the fluid and restores the
mechanics that are supposed to be doing it for you, so joint pain stops being the first thing you
feel every morning.

If your hands and feet are puffy and your joints ache in a way that eases once you get going,
book an appointment.

October is a hinge, not a reset

Every year around now I catch myself narrating the fall I'm about to have. The version with the
meal prep.

I've stopped taking that voice seriously.

"Getting back on track" assumes there was a track, that you fell off it, and that the work is
climbing back to somewhere you already were. None of that is true. You're not the person you
were in May, and you're not supposed to be. Bodies don't get restored. They evolve, and they
carry what happened to them.

What this season is actually asking for isn't a return. It's rhythm.

Not a perfect one. A repeating one. Eating at roughly the same times. Getting into bed before
the second wind arrives. Going outside in the morning while there's still real light to get. A body
that knows what's coming next spends far less energy bracing for what might.

This is the least exciting health advice we give and it outperforms nearly everything else, because
small things done repeatedly are how a nervous system learns it's safe. Consistency beats
intensity every time.

It's also why fall is the best time of year to restart care. Not because you failed at summer.
Because the season is already moving toward order, and it's far easier to build a rhythm with the
year than against it. Build it now and you're not trying to build it in January, in the dark, from
Nothing.

Let’s get started right here right now. Exactly as you are.

How many times do you come in for acupuncture to get results?

The question I get at the end of nearly every first visit: "So how many of these do I need?"

Typically, based upon my years/decades of experience: Twelve. Weekly.

I'll tell you why that number, because "a series of treatments" is a useless answer and I've never
liked giving it.

Acupuncture works by changing how your body responds, not by overriding a symptom for a
few hours. A response pattern that took two years to build doesn't reverse in one appointment. It
shifts in layers, and each layer needs the one before it to hold.

Roughly what it looks like:

Weeks 1–4. We address the symptom while securing a foundation of health. You sleep harder.
You have a normal bowel movement. And again the next day. You have some more energy. The
symptom lessens in intensity and frequency.

Weeks 5–8. You might start noticing your symptom(s) as frequently. Still there, just less
prevalent. Less often, less intense, shorter when it comes. This is where people think they might
cancel the specialist appointment they booked earlier in the summer.

Weeks 9–12. The relief holds between visits. That's the actual goal — not feeling good on my
table, feeling good on a Thursday when nothing special is happening. It’s an absence of
symptom(s) that we are looking for!

We check in at every visit to know where we are in the process. Typically, we are looking for two
weeks in a row of sustained symptom relief – that’s when we know the pattern has truly
changed back into one of health and functioning well.

For acute pain we start at two a week for the first few weeks, then drop to one.

Twelve weekly sessions is where meaningful change happens.

Uptight.

This isn’t about being a control freak. This is a form of anxiety trying to keep you safe.

What looks like uptight from the outside is usually a nervous system that doesn’t have a
foundation it can trust.

You're not controlling because you enjoy control. You're controlling because nothing underneath
you is reliably steady, so you're holding the structure up yourself, all day, every day.

In Chinese medicine this particular pattern is rooted in the lungs and the spleen — the systems
that handle taking in and breaking down. Breath and digestion. Rhythm and nourishment. When
those are working, you have an internal floor: a body that knows what time it is, knows when it's
fed, knows when it's safe to stop bracing. When they aren't, your mind takes the job. It runs
scenarios. It checks. It makes the plan for the plan.

This is why "just relax" has never once worked on you. You can't relax onto a floor that isn't
There.

We help our patients build a floor so their nervous systems can rest. We focus on supporting the
lungs and spleen so that they function optimally. This supports sleep, digestion, breath, the
actual physical rhythms, and the mental vigilance loosens on its own. It stops being the only
thing holding you up.

Let’s get you some support.

Irregular periods and cycle chaos

You opened the app to check something and realized you stopped logging in June.

Because it stopped making sense.

Late. Then early. Then nothing for six weeks and four days of quietly wondering. Then heavy in
a way that caught you off guard.

Menstrual cycles follow a rhythm, and rhythm is the first thing a body drops when it's carrying a
sustained load. Not a crisis — a load. A summer of disrupted sleep and travel and meals at
strange hours and a nervous system that never got one full week off.

A cycle that's been chaotic for years or months isn't going to reorganize itself just because the
kids are back in school. It needs some support so that it can find a rhythm. This is exactly what

Your cycle is the clearest monthly report you get on how the whole system is running. It's also
the foundation everything else is built on — fertility, steady energy, periods that don't cost you a
day. Getting the rhythm back is the first move, not a later one.

Fall is the perfect time to establish a predictable rhythm in your menstrual cycle. In Chinese
Medicine, Fall is the season of consistency and rhythmic order.

Let’s figure out what’s causing this irregularity and get you back on track.

Acid reflux and constipation

You keep Tums in three places now. Car, desk, nightstand.

You've organized your life around it without even noticing you’re compensating: nothing after
seven, the extra pillow, avoiding tomato sauce when you go out to eat. You’re managing. But it’s
not “normal”.

Here's the part nobody has connected for you.

If things aren't moving down and out at the bottom, (yes, I’m talking about your bowels),
pressure backs up at the top. Acid reflux and constipation are not two separate issues you
happen to have at the same time. They are 100% connected.

Digestion starts at the top and moves down. Reflux is a symptom that nothing is moving down –
it’s coming back up. Burning. Bloating. That heavy full feeling two hours after you've eaten.
Sleeping propped up like you're recovering from something.

Acid blockers work on the burning, but they don't touch the reason the reflux is bossing you
around.

Acid reflux is one of the more straightforward patterns we help patients with. We restore the
downward movement, and the reflux tends to resolve as a consequence of things finally going
where they're supposed to go – down and out.

Help is here.

Chinese Medicine does not view ADHD as a moral failure or a broken brain. Or even something
to “fix”.

It’s a different way of processing the world.

And whether you take medication or not, supporting the BODY matters:
sleep,
stress,
digestion,
focus,
nervous system regulation,
energy,
Recovery.

Because everything works better when the whole system is more supported.

The goal is not to become a productivity robot. Or “normal” (boring!)
The goal is YOU feeling better in your actual life.

Less overwhelmed.
More resources.

And maybe finding your keys a little more often too. OR NOT. I’m not here to judge.
