Anxiety isn’t an imaginary experience happening somewhere inside your thoughts. Your body is participating too. 🧠↔️🫀

Your nervous system can change heart rate, breathing, muscle tension, digestion, attention, and energy availability in response to perceived stress.

Then your brain notices those physical sensations—and sometimes interprets them as additional evidence that something is wrong.

That can create a very real feedback loop.

It also helps explain why sleep, nutrition, hormones, blood sugar, physical health, chronic stress, therapy, relationships, and nervous system regulation can all belong in the mental health conversation.

Save this one for the next time your body seems to hit the alarm button before your rational brain has even entered the room. 🌿💚

Anxiety can wear a very convincing productivity costume. 🎭🧠

Over-preparing. Rechecking. Researching endlessly. Staying busy. Feeling guilty when you’re resting. Trying to anticipate every possible problem before it happens.

From the outside? You may look incredibly capable.

Inside? Your nervous system may rarely experience a true sense of “done.”

Preparation can serve us. Perfectionism can exhaust us.

Learning where one becomes the other is part of learning your own nervous system. 💚

What if anxiety isn’t always the enemy? 🧠🌿

I’ve dealt with anxiety and perfectionism for much of my life. Sometimes they’ve been crippling. Other times, those same tendencies have fueled preparation, persistence, and work I’m proud of.

This week, we’re exploring anxiety, the nervous system, and why mental health isn’t about being calm all the time. Sometimes it’s about learning to work with the brain you have. 💚

I know anxiety personally. 🧠

Sometimes it has made things harder than they needed to be. Sometimes the traits intertwined with it—preparation, persistence, conscientiousness, anticipating problems—have genuinely served me.

Both things can be true.

A healthy nervous system isn’t one that never becomes anxious. It’s one that can respond when needed and recover when the demand has passed. 🌿

Understanding that distinction completely changed the way I think about my own anxiety.

🧠 What if we stopped thinking about anxiety only as something we need to get rid of?

Anxiety is part of an adaptive stress response designed to help us anticipate problems, recognize potential threats, and prepare to act. The trouble begins when that alarm system becomes too sensitive—or rarely gets the opportunity to fully turn back down.

And sometimes anxiety doesn’t look like panic. It looks like perfectionism, over-preparing, overthinking, staying incredibly busy, or feeling like you can never quite let yourself be “done.”

This week, we’re kicking off our October Mental Health + Nervous System series by exploring anxiety from both sides: when it helps us prepare and perform, and when the same nervous system starts wearing us out. 🌿

The goal isn’t to be calm all the time.

It’s to build a nervous system that can respond, recover, and adapt. 💚

🧠✨ Why does your mood feel unpredictable? Why is focus harder than it used to be? And what might your brain chemistry have to do with it?

Join me TOMORROW at 12:00 PM MT for a FREE live webinar, Why Your Mood & Focus Feel Off.

We’re going beyond the usual “get more sleep and manage your stress” advice to explore the biology behind how you feel and function. We’ll talk about neurotransmitters, the gut-brain connection, nutrients, hormones, inflammation, stress, and some of the other factors that can influence mood, focus, and cognitive health. 🧬🧠

I’ll also give you a peek into some of the testing I use in practice, what we can (and can’t!) learn from it, and how I think through the bigger clinical picture.

🧠💚 If you’ve followed along this month, thank you.

We’ve explored the gut-brain connection, neurotransmitters, brain fog, anxiety, focus, and the many factors that influence how our brains function.

But the biggest lesson isn’t about a single neurotransmitter or supplement.

It’s this:

✨ Your brain is always adapting.

It responds to the environment you create through sleep, nourishment, movement, stress resilience, relationships, recovery, and the everyday choices that often seem too ordinary to matter.

The beautiful thing is...

Those ordinary choices really do matter.

Not because they have to be perfect, but because they’re repeated over time.

Thank you for joining me on this journey through brain health.

Next month, we’ll build on this foundation as we begin exploring mental health and the incredible nervous system that helps shape so much of the human experience.

💚 Until then, take good care of your brain. It’s been taking good care of you all along.

🧠💚 We often think of brain health as something we either have or we don’t.

In reality, it’s something we help shape every single day.
Your brain is constantly responding to the environment it’s living in.

😴 Sleep
🥗 Nourishment
🚶 Movement
🌿 Recovery
💊 Thoughtful support when needed

Those ordinary choices become the information your brain uses to adapt over time.

And that’s what I find so encouraging.

You don’t have to be perfect.

You don’t have to overhaul your entire life overnight.

Just keep creating patterns that give your brain every opportunity to do what it was beautifully designed to do.

💚 Small, consistent choices really do matter.

🧠💊 “What’s the best supplement for brain health?”

It’s one of the questions I hear most often, and my answer is almost always...

“It depends.”

Omega-3s, magnesium, creatine, medicinal mushrooms, B vitamins, vitamin D, citicoline, phosphatidylserine, and many other nutrients can be wonderful tools—but they’re not interchangeable, and they’re not right for everyone.

The best supplement is the one that fits your biology, your symptoms, and your health story.

That’s why personalized medicine matters.

💚 Supplements can be incredibly helpful, but they work best when they’re supporting a strong foundation rather than trying to replace one.
