Why is leadership hard?

This is just one of the questions we worked through as I implemented my latest workshop for CI Services, a UniTek Global Services Company. Because, let's be honest, being in charge is hard. A lot of pressure sits on a leader's shoulders. You're responsible for decisions, people, deadlines, communication, and outcomes. And that pressure can lead to stress.

When stress shows up, how does it affect the way we lead?

Leadership isn't just about being the person in charge. It's about how you show up when things get hard. And sometimes, leadership doesn't even require a title.

Teams need different resources. There is no one-size-fits-all.

J29 understands that, and they put it into action. They ask their team what they need and find ways to provide those resources. I’ve seen this through the workshops I teach with them, and even more so through the opportunity they gave me to bring Talk Saves Lives to their team.

Supporting your team means listening, asking questions, and recognizing that different people may need different things.

At my workshop with J29, Inc., we talked about the importance of actually using your PTO and how it benefits both you and your team.

Release the PTO guilt.

Do something for yourself.

Rest. Have fun. Take a break.

Then come back and show up for your team. 💜

Who is a trusted adult?

That was just one of the questions we explored while presenting “It’s Real,” a su***de prevention program designed for middle and high school students.

I had the incredible opportunity to support Sonya Bohmann by working the room, keeping students engaged, and helping them seize the awkward.

Sometimes that means taking the awkwardness out of simply asking a friend:

“Are you good?”It doesn’t have to be a perfect conversation. Sometimes, starting the conversation is what matters.

Miscommunication and conflict are not always due to misunderstanding.

Maybe you dropped the ball

And sometimes, we simply need to take ownership.

" I never noticed my socks before"

A comment that was made after ending our session with a breathing activity.

During our workshop with CI Services, LLC, A Unitek Global Services Company, we talked about the importance of slowing down and checking in with our priorities for the day. We discussed the importance of slowing down and checking in on our priorities for the day. When we slow down, we can notice things we have not noticed before, from mistakes to new solutions, or to realizing the feel of your own socks 😂 . So much can happen when we take the time to slow down.
