There's a piece of equipment in your house right now that you still haven't set up.
Ours was a sensory swing. Four years in a closet, because putting it up meant putting holes in the ceiling and I knew exactly how that would go.
Six holes later it's up. She loves it. I've stopped looking up.

I offered my seat to the guy shaking his head at a struggling mom, and it turned into the best decision I made that day.

Her son was having a hard time. The man next to them clearly wasn't helping, shaking his head. So I offered to switch, he took it, and I sat down next to her instead.

Turns out we had more in common than a flight. Her son is autistic, so is mine. By the time we landed, he was asleep and she wasn't doing it alone anymore.

Ask a medical parent what's in their head right now and you'll get a list. Meds, refills, the prior auth that expires this month, the appointment somebody needs to move.

Diapers shouldn't be on that list. No store near you carries size 9, 10, or 11, so running out doesn't mean a quick trip. It means waiting.

They were so close.

The backpack is great. My daughter has had hers a year and I'm grateful it exists.

But when they went to photograph it, nobody asked a wheelchair user what kind of chair a kid with this backpack would actually be using.

That's most of this life. So close. Not built and sold with us in mind the whole way through.

What's something for your kid that got it almost all the way right?

When size 10 sold out, we had a choice. Keep taking new orders and hope the math worked, or stop selling until we could restock.

We stopped. Six weeks, waitlist only, while every subscriber kept getting their box. Those boxes were already promised. That made the call simple.

What we didn't expect: families with size 10 subscriptions messaging us to offer their boxes to families who had nothing.

We can plan inventory. That part is just math. The other part isn't.
