Difficult emotions are a natural part of being human, but that doesn’t mean they’re easy to sit with. Anxiety, sadness, anger, fear, and shame can bring up an urge to distract ourselves, suppress what we’re feeling, or find a way to make the discomfort go away.
Learning to stay with difficult emotions doesn’t mean becoming consumed by them or acting on every feeling. It means creating space to notice what’s happening, get curious about what the emotion may be communicating, and give yourself the opportunity to choose how you want to respond.
