This might be an unpopular opinion, but someone needs to say it:

Cold plunging might be doing more harm than good.

Before anyone comes for me, let me be clear: cold plunging isn't bad. It can be a powerful tool for some people. The problem is that wellness trends often get presented as one-size-fits-all, when our bodies are anything but.

Here are 3 times cold plunging might not be the best choice:

Your nervous system is already overwhelmed.
Cold plunging activates your fight-or-flight response. While that can help some people build resilience, it can be too much if you're already dealing with chronic stress, anxiety, or burnout. Starting with smaller exposures may be a better place to begin.

Your hormones are already struggling.
Cold exposure influences stress hormones like cortisol. If your body is already navigating poor sleep, chronic stress, or hormone imbalances, adding another stressor may work against your goals rather than support them.

You're trying to conceive.

Your body needs to feel safe in order to prioritize reproduction. Even "good stress" is still stress. Many holistic fertility approaches also emphasize keeping the core and pelvis warm to support reproductive health.

The takeaway? Cold plunging isn't bad. It's just not the right tool for everybody, in every season.

Pay attention to how your body responds. The best wellness plan is the one that works with your body, not against it.

What if spending your adulthood healing your nervous system means they won’t have to?

Not because you’ll do it perfectly.
Not because they’ll never struggle.
But because kids learn regulation from being around regulated people.

They learn what stress, repair, and self-care look like.
What it means to have feelings without being consumed by them.

Every time you pause and take a breath instead of snapping, you give yourself permission to rest, and you learn to listen to your body instead of pushing through it. You’re teaching them something.

Every time you don’t, it‘s an opportunity to talk about what you could have done.

The work you’re doing isn’t just changing your life. It’s helping create a home where nervous systems can feel safe, supported, and understood.

What is a castor oil pack?

A castor oil pack is a piece of cloth soaked in castor oil and placed over the abdomen, often with a heating pad.

It's commonly used to support relaxation, digestion, menstrual comfort, and overall pelvic wellness.

How does it work?

Castor oil contains a compound called ricinoleic acid. Research suggests ricinoleic acid may have anti-inflammatory properties and can influence circulation and smooth muscle activity. The heat from the pack also increases blood flow to the area.

Potential benefits

Many women use castor oil packs to support:
• Menstrual cramping
• Pelvic discomfort
• Constipation and digestive sluggishness
• Relaxation and stress reduction

The nervous system piece

This is the part that often gets overlooked.

Using a castor oil pack usually means lying down, applying warmth, slowing your breathing, and taking time to rest. For many women, that alone can help the body shift out of "go mode" and into a more relaxed state.

How to use one

Apply about 1–2 tablespoons of castor oil to a cloth and place it over your lower abdomen.

Add gentle heat if desired and relax for 20–30 minutes. Start on the shorter end and see how your body responds. If it feels supportive, you can gradually work up to longer sessions.

When should you avoid them?

Castor oil packs are generally not recommended:
• During pregnancy
• Over broken or irritated skin
• During active infections or acute illness

Always check with your provider if you're unsure.

The truth

Castor oil packs have been used for generations, and many women report meaningful benefits.
The research is still limited, so we can't say they directly treat things like infertility, endometriosis, or hormonal imbalances. But many people find them helpful as part of a larger wellness routine.

Comment "CASTOR OIL" and I'll send you a link to my favorite castor oil products and an article from Amy Colo that breaks it down even further.

As always, this is for educational purposes only and is not medical advice. Please consult your healthcare provider before starting any new treatment or wellness practice.
