Lyme left untreated will last forever, but this doesn’t mean that everyone who gets bitten by a tick will develop chronic Lyme disease.

It’s estimated that about 80% of people who get Lyme disease can defeat it on their own. But the remaining 20% either have immune system issues or they’re being bombarded with other toxins or tick infections on top of the Lyme. When the immune system has to fight multiple invaders, it makes it much harder to defeat Lyme on its own.

Once you have chronic Lyme/PTLDS, you’ll undoubtedly struggle with Lyme until you start an effective protocol.

Untreated Lyme disease can lead to serious, long-term health challenges if not addressed early.

In this video, Dr. Kyle Warren walks you through what happens when Lyme disease is left untreated, the symptoms you may experience over time, and why it's important to recognize the signs early.

That being said, one of the most important messages we want to get across is that no matter how long you've had Lyme disease, you CAN recover.

Google review from RHS patient, Jesse:

"I was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune condition in the fall of 2023. For a year and a half I suffered from debilitating symptoms while continuously searching for answers. During this period I saw various dermatologists and rheumatologists, underwent extensive testing at the Mayo Clinic yet nothing I was prescribed was making a positive impact on my health. At this point the only treatment option that remained was to start on a drug usually reserved for cancer patients. I was hesitant, worried about the side effects and long term health implications so I started looking for alternative options which led me to RHS.

My first appointment with Dr. Paul was in the summer of 2024 and I was immediately relieved that, like me, he was interested in exploring the root cause of symptoms and not just treating the symptoms like every other doctor I met with previously. After several tests he came up with a protocol to heal my gut and reduce inflammation. By simply taking supplements and changing my diet my symptoms have improved dramatically. If you have an autoimmune condition, inflammation and/or gut issues I urge you to give RHS a chance. If you are tired of going to see doctors who shrug their shoulders when you ask them “why do I have these symptoms?” then you’ll appreciate the approach of Dr. Paul. Two years after first meeting with him I can’t believe how much better I feel. I understand being skeptical but I highly recommend you give RHS a chance."

Parents of kids with pediatric acute-onset neuropsychiatric syndrome (PANS) often describe the same experience. Their child was fine on a Tuesday, but by Friday, their child couldn’t sleep, wouldn’t leave their room, was washing their hands raw, or was having rage episodes that didn't match anything in their history.

Pediatricians run standard panels, but everything comes back normal. The family is told to wait it out, or they’re referred to a psychiatrist who starts with behavioral labels instead of biological ones.

Throughout Dr. Warren's clinical experience treating tick-borne illnesses, this pattern has shown up consistently, and Lyme disease and its co-infections are some of the most overlooked triggers.

Some researchers and clinicians have explored whether infections associated with Lyme disease can act as immune triggers for PANS. In Dr. Warren's clinical experience, there isn't just one pattern. There are several, and each one tends to show up with a slightly different symptom fingerprint.

Learn how Lyme, Babesia, Bartonella, and other tickborne infections can impact children.

PANS symptoms tend to cover a wide range, often appearing suddenly enough to disrupt school, sleep, and family routines within days. Symptoms can also fluctuate, flaring during periods of immune stress and easing during calmer stretches.
