Irish musician, singer, and songwriter Dolores O'Riordan died in January 2018. Today, she would have celebrated her 55th birthday.
Dolores was best known as lead vocalist and lyricist for the Cranberries. In a June/July 1996 interview with You! Magazine, Dolores spoke candidly about abortion and its impact on women:
"It's not good for women to go through the procedure [abortion] and have something living sucked out of their bodies. It belittles women. Even though some women say, 'Oh, I don't mind to have one,' every time a woman has an abortion, it just crushes her self-esteem, smaller and smaller and smaller."
Dolores’ words remind us that behind every abortion is a human life and a woman who deserves compassion, support and hope. Her words continue to challenge us to recognise the dignity of every unborn child and to build a society where no woman feels that abortion is her only option.
