In Memoriam: Deputy Chief David C. Allen, Badge 189

It is with heavy hearts that the Kingston Professional Firefighters Association announces the passing of our brother, Deputy Chief David C. Allen, who passed away today.

David gave nearly four decades of dedicated service to this department and the community it protects. His career reflects a steady climb through the ranks and a lifetime of commitment:

May 26, 1976: Appointed Firefighter
April 11, 1992: Appointed Lieutenant
Dec. 23, 1995: Appointed Captain
July 1, 2013: Appointed Deputy Chief
June 30, 2015: Retired

David spent a portion of his career on Platoon 1. Over the years, he served in the department's Fire Prevention Bureau as the Fire Prevention Officer, and later as the Deputy Chief in charge of the Building Safety Division.

Affectionately known as "Doctor" or "Davy", he was a quiet and reserved man. Sometimes you didn't even know he was in the room. But when he spoke, people listened, because David was an educator at heart. He was a CPR instructor and a longtime New York State Fire Instructor, and he was best known for his deep knowledge of building codes. He passed that knowledge on to countless firefighters, and his teaching leaves a mark that will outlast us all.
David's quiet leadership and expertise shaped this department, and his example will not be forgotten. He served with honor, and he leaves behind a legacy of dedication, mentorship, and skill that endures in everyone he taught.

On behalf of the entire membership, we extend our deepest condolences to David's family during this difficult time.
Funeral and service details are not yet available. We will share those arrangements with the membership as soon as we receive them.

Until then, we ask that all members keep the Allen family in your thoughts and prayers. Let us stand together and support one another through this loss.

Rest easy, Doctor. We have the watch from here.
