You can do everything “right” for a new school year and still feel like your family is running on fumes.

The lunch boxes are packed. The backpacks are ready. Everyone is technically where they need to be. But sleep is off, emotions are closer to the surface, and every small illness feels like it could take the whole household down.

This is where I come back to the same belief again and again: it is all connected. A child's nervous system, sleep, digestion, immune response, emotions, and ability to focus are not separate little projects. Neither are the people caring for that child.

Life Sprout runs on a simple membership model because wellness care should be consistent, not a crisis response. One monthly investment covers your family's care, so support is available as your family moves through real life and changing seasons.

This isn't a promise that your child will never get sick. It is a different model entirely: helping the body build a stronger foundation and giving families a place to ask better questions.

If your family is entering this season already stretched thin, you can book a free consultation through the link in our bio.

Some children come home from school and fall apart in the doorway.

Not because they had a bad day. Because they held everything together for six hours and finally reached the place where their body felt safe enough to let go.

HeartMath gives children a concrete way to notice what is happening inside them and practice shifting their breathing, attention, and emotional state. It isn't pretending a hard feeling isn't there. It is giving the nervous system another option.

Try this together: place a hand over the heart, slow the breath, and picture someone or something you genuinely appreciate. Stay there for a few breaths. For a child, the practice matters more than getting it perfect.

And parents are part of the picture. A family is a system. When one person is stretched thin, everyone feels it. Regulation is not one more thing to perform correctly. It is a skill we can practice together, before the next big morning or bedtime unraveling.

At Life Sprout, pediatric chiropractic starts with a simple idea: a child's nervous system is still developing, and the body needs room to adapt. An ICPA-informed approach looks at the whole child, not just the symptom that brought a family through the door.

This isn't about forcing the body into a shape or chasing a diagnosis. It's about supporting the nervous system so a child has more room to meet the world from the inside out.

I know this personally. I was the child with headaches every single day, allergies, and an inhaler before every run. I didn't outgrow my diagnoses. My body started working the way it was supposed to.

A new school year is one more place for that support to matter. The link in our bio is there if you want to learn more about how we work.

A family just started care with us. Their four and a half year old hasn’t been able to graduate from nighttime pull ups yet. He just doesn’t wake up to go in the middle of the night.

Everywhere his mom turned, the message was the same: He'll grow out of it. It's normal. Just wait.

I understand why people say it. Most kids do grow out of it. But "wait it out" is a hard place to live when you're the one washing sheets every morning — and he's the one waking up embarrassed, or as he gets older worrying about things like sleep overs.

At his second visit, mom shared with me: (shared with her permission) he had several dry pull-ups in a row. And one night, he woke himself up and went to the bathroom.

I want to be careful with a story like this. One good week isn't a promise, and every child is on their own timeline. But here is what focusing on the nervous system tells us: the bladder is run by the nervous system. A child whose system is stuck in stress mode is working overtime even while he sleeps, and the signals that are supposed to wake him just can't get through.

When a nervous system starts working the way it was supposed to, the body has a way of catching up.

Sometimes it isn't about something they'll grow out of. It's about making sure their nervous system is working.

That is why we don't do one-off visits. Consistent care gives a child's system time to hold on to the change. If there is something your child is living with that everyone says they'll grow out of, you can book a free consultation through the link in our bio.

Some children walk into a new classroom ready to learn. Some walk in with their whole nervous system braced for what might happen next.

New sounds. New faces. New rules. New expectations.

HeartMath gives children a way to notice their inner state before it becomes a full-body reaction. We teach them to recognize what their own stress feels like, use a steady breathing pattern, and practice that skill when life is calm so it is available when the day gets big.

This isn't about making a child compliant or asking them to breathe their feelings away. It is about giving them language for what is happening inside: My heart is racing. My shoulders are tight. I need a moment before I can answer.

That kind of awareness changes the conversation at home, too. Instead of only asking, "How was school?" we can ask, "What did your body notice today?"

Regulation is a skill. Skills get stronger with practice.

The start of a school year can make you notice everything your child doesn't know to vocalize.

The early mornings. The new classroom. The change in routine. The effort it takes to hold it together all day.

ICPA-informed pediatric chiropractic starts with a simple idea: a child's nervous system is still developing, and the body needs room to adapt. The goal isn't to force the body into a shape or chase a symptom. It's to support the nervous system so the child can meet the world from a more regulated place.

That matters during back-to-school season. It matters after a hard birth, a long illness, or months of disrupted sleep. It matters because children do not leave their bodies at the door when they walk into a classroom.

And neither do parents. A family is a system. When one person is stretched thin, everyone feels it.

If your child is entering this school year already running on empty, you don't have to wait for a crisis to ask questions. Book a free consultation through the link in our bio.

I was talking with a mom this week whose family just started back into the school routine.

She said, "I feel like I'm a full time uber driver, except I'm unpaid and don't ever get bathroom breaks."

That's the thing about a transition like this. The whole family's nervous system is adjusting. The kids are adapting to new demands. The parents are carrying the logistics. And nobody gets a manual for what their body needs during a season change.

When a family comes in together, something shifts. It's not just that everyone gets adjusted. It's that for a few minutes, each person in that family gets to stop going full steam ahead and just have their nervous system supported. The mom who's been holding it all gets to set it down. The kid who's been holding it together all day gets to let go.

This is what the membership is built for. Not crisis care. Consistent care. One monthly investment covers the whole family, so nobody has to wait until they're falling apart to show up.

If your family is in a transition right now — back to school, new schedule, new demands — this is a good time to start. Link in bio to schedule. We offer group appointments for the whole family.

A new classroom is a lot for a nervous system.

New sounds. New faces. New rules. New expectations. And for some kids, that's not exciting — it's overwhelming.

When a child's nervous system is already regulated, they can meet that kind of stress without tipping over the edge. When it's not, you see it at home: the meltdown after school, the refusal to talk about their day, the child who "holds it together" all day and falls apart the minute they're safe with you.

That's not bad behavior. That's a nervous system that used everything it had to cope, and ran out.

This is where HeartMath comes in. It's not a trick or a tool for compliance. It's a way of teaching kids what their own inner state feels like — and how to shift it. We teach them to notice their "inner weather," to breathe in a way that tells their body it's safe, and to practice that when things are calm so it's available when things aren't.

A kid who can regulate their nervous system has a skill that outlasts any school year.

The first few weeks of a new school year ask a lot of a kid's body.

New sleep schedules. Earlier mornings. Backpacks that weigh more than they should. The stress of a new classroom, new faces, new expectations. All of it lands on the nervous system.

Here's what most people don't realize: the nervous system and the immune system aren't separate departments. They're run by the same network. When a child's spine is aligned and their nervous system is communicating clearly, their body is better equipped to do what it was designed to do — adapt, respond, and fight off what comes their way.

This isn't about "boosting" immunity like flipping a switch. It's about removing the interference that keeps the body from doing what it already knows how to do.

A child under regular chiropractic care isn't just getting their back "fixed." Their nervous system is being supported so every other system — immune, digestive, respiratory — works the way it was supposed to.

And it's not just kids who need this support in a seasonal transition. The whole family is shifting routines. Parents are carrying the stress of new schedules too. This is why Life Sprout is built for families, not just the youngest one in the house.

The speed with which an adjustment can help a constipated, fussy baby have a bowel movement and turn into a new kid still surprises me after 15 years 😂

While I'm still waiting for a total blow out on the table (okay, maybe not really) one of my favorite stories from recently was during our family 4th of July trip to Eagle AK. Our big kids are old enough to have friends with babies, so we had a 13 month old in the mix.

A fussy, constipated 13 month old. I offered to adjust him. Mom and Dad accepted. An hour and a half later he had p**ped four times and was a completely different baby.

If you know a family with a little one struggling with consistent, pain free bowel movements send them my way. They are literally one of my favorite kiddos to see in my office 💞

And yes, I will happily talk about p**p all day long! 😉
