Does your loved one seem more confused, restless, or agitated during the late afternoon or evening? Some may refer to this late-day fatigue as “sundowning.”

Late-day fatigue is seen in individuals with Alzheimer's disease or other dementias. The individual may experience late-day changes in mood, thinking, and functioning. The individual may communicate their late-day fatigue by:
🚶‍➡️ Pacing, wandering, or rocking in a chair
📢 Yelling, crying, or shadowing a caregiver
😠 Agitation, irritability, or aggression
💤 Difficulty sleeping or insomnia

💡Daylight Saving Time (DST) can worsen sundowning symptoms due to the disruption of their internal biological clocks.
