Nobody tells you about the tangled part.
The confusion. The slow start. The "am I even doing this right?" phase.
But every artist who's built something real went through it.
Hard at first. Messy in the middle. Gorgeous at the end.
Trust the process. 🧡

Our Grief Tree Rings workshop was such a meaningful reminder that grief doesn’t move in a straight line.

Just like the rings of a tree, every season of life leaves its mark on us. Some layers hold joy, some hold pain, and some represent the quiet growth that happens after loss. The loss itself may never fully disappear — but over time, we learn to grow around it.

Through art, reflection, and conversation, we explored how grief changes shape through the seasons of our lives. Every piece created tonight told a different story, yet all carried the same reminder: healing is not about “getting over” loss, but learning how to carry it with compassion.

So grateful for everyone who showed up with openness, courage, and vulnerability. 🤍🎨🌳

Today’s Leaving an Imprint workshop was incredibly powerful. Through clay, participants explored identity, illness, resilience, grief, healing, and hope — each mask telling a deeply personal story without needing many words.

Some pieces reflected the visible and invisible impacts of cancer and treatment, while others revealed strength, transformation, humor, protection, or the parts of ourselves we keep hidden. Watching people create, connect, and express emotions through art was such an honor.

Art has a way of making space for stories that are hard to say out loud. Today reminded me how meaningful creative expression can be in the healing process. 💛

A special thanks to Meg from the Flint Institute of Arts for helping us with this project.

Next, the masks will be kiln fired and finished with iron oxide before being displayed at our upcoming art show — allowing these stories and experiences to continue being witnessed and honored by the community.
