Artificial Intelligence (AI) platforms, like ChatGPT, are becoming increasingly popular sources of nutritional information and advice. While these apps can be a wonderful tool, they shouldn't be your only source.
"I urge you to use caution as these tools are not able to take your individual health history into account," said McLaren Flint clinical dietitian Elexia Sylvester. "Dietitians will always recommend consulting professionals if you plan to make significant dietary changes."

McLaren Flint is partnering with the Flushing Senior Center to offer a free Joint Replacement educational program on August 27 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Dr. Seann Willson, board-certified orthopedic surgeon, will discuss arthritis, non-surgical treatments for arthritis, when to consider a joint replacement, and Mako robotic-assisted surgery. Trauma
There has been a very noticeable uptick in the volume of patients seeking care after traumatic injuries, most notably orthopedic injuries suffered during activities, falls, and motor vehicle and boating accidents.

Strep
While not a trending condition, there have been several pediatric patients treated for strep throat, which is unseasonable for this time of year.

When you think about exercise and heart health, walking, jogging, or some other type of cardio comes to mind, but women's heart health can actually be greatly improved by getting in regular resistance training, like weight lifting.
"With just 2 hours of resistance training exercise per week, women can boost their heart health," said McLaren Flint clinical dietitian Elexia Sylvester. "A study in the American College of Cardiology Journal shows it can result in a 44 percent lower heart attack risk."

Congratulations to Janice Rankin, McLaren Flint’s July Outstanding Employee of the Month. Janice works in nutritional services as a dietary supervisor. She also helps out, taking on other roles in her department whenever she is asked.

Eight physicians officially made history on July 1, 2026, at McLaren Flint, when they began their journeys through the hospital’s new Emergency Medicine Graduate Medical Education residency program. They are the inaugural class and will always be able to say they were the first. They have begun a three-year program to master the ins and outs of emergency care. Eight more residents will join the program in July 2027, and another eight in July 2028, for a total of 24 residents rotating through the hospital for the foreseeable future.
