We provide mobile physical Therapy for Lynchburg and Bedford, VA. They can leave us frustrated with not being able to still participate in our favorite sport. Often times people will deny their injury and push through it but it only gets worse and becomes even more debilit

ating. I go to where ever my clients are; their home, office, or court/field to empower them to take back control of their injury. By providing an effective and specific rehab program, our clients can quickly return to the joy of playing their sport and with their kids. I help them find ways to feel fit and fulfilled with an alternative exercise routine while they are injured so they can maintain their happiness and sanity in the meantime. I help active adults continue to be happy active adults again.

This is what it's all about for . We help injured athletes come back stronger than ever. Rock is a fantastic goalkeeper. Great with his hands and good with his feet when called upon to make a pass. But he was struggling with hip pain when he asked us to help. We helped heal his hip flexor strain and come back better than ever so he can send the ball further than ever. hope you have a great season, we're proud of all your hard work!

We are regularly asked what's the best way to start strengthening my back?

The answer like most things in physical therapy is it depends.

Nearly 10% of the world lives with low back pain while 80% of people will experience low back pain at some point in their life. These stats might point to low back pain being a normal problem to have but it's typically a very treatable injury.

Depending on the type of back pain and the root causes patients may need to strengthen their core first, or their hips or restore motion to their spine first... The possibilities of what may need to be focused on initially is nearly endless.

But eventually everyone needs to restore mobility to their spine as the best they can. And then progress to restoring the strength of their spine through motion. This is where this exercise series comes in.

We see a lot of people who initially made some progress with traditional physical therapy, but eventually their progress plateaued because the physical therapy only focused on core strengthening or very simple table exercises. They come to us still complaining of stiffness or discomfort in their back. What we often find is they never actually trained their spine to flex and extend with loaded resistance.

This exercise is focused on restoring spinal mobility and then strengthening the spine through full ranges of motion.

Last season with .yeager27 had a season ending injury with a patella dislocation. After getting an MRI and the doctor clearing Keegan to begin rehab he got to work. Whether it was doing the boring representative exercises to remove swelling, doing grueling blood flow restriction workouts to restore muscle activation or just hitting the weights to build strength Keegan attacked his rehab with a single focus: to get back to playing soccer better than ever.

We're so proud of Keegan for the hard work he put into his rehab and return to sport training, and we are loving watching the results this season.

"I can't squat without my back hurting."
"I keep stretching and strengthening my back and core but it still hurts when I squat."

Is Ankle stiffness causing my low back pain when I squat or play sports?

The answer is maybe.

We need about 40 degrees of on ground ankle dorsiflexion (ankle bending) to get through a full depth squat without putting undue stress on the low back. You can use the quick and easy thumbs up assessment to check your ankle mobility to determine if your ankle has good flexibility. If the knee can't touch the wall without the heel coming up then stiffness in your ankle might be causing you difficulty achieving good squat depth without stressing your low back.

The banded self ankle mobilization is one of the main exercises we use to help patients restore their ankle flexibility so they can get back to squatting pain free. If your ankle are stiff, try this exercise to restore your mobility to help you squat pain free.

We loved getting to watch play on the tennis court this week.
She's sprained her ankle while playing tennis and came to therapy soon after the initial ankle sprain with swelling and bruising. But she didn't let it hold her back. She worked with us to come back stronger. She was already a great athlete thanks to her work with but while treating her ankle we found a couple of additional areas that would benefit from specific mobility and strengthening exercises.

She achieved the goal we have with all of our clients: to come back stronger and better than ever no matter the injury.

Great afternoon watching two long time patients play tennis today! and have had great seasons so far this spring, and we can't wait to see how they do this post season!

The highschool tennis season is underway in Lynchburg and we're starting to see quite a few tennis and pickleball injuries including tennis elbow, medial epicondylitis, and rotator cuff injuries. These injuries are typically caused by an over reliance on said muscle groups (rotator cuff, wrist extensors, wrist flexors) and an under reliance of the scapular stabilizers, pecs, core and glutes typically due to these muscles being under trained.

These two exercises are an exercise we use to injury proof our tennis players and enhance their performance by strengthening the entire upper body for tennis and pickleball. These are called the three-way backhand and three-way forehand cable pulls. Initially in rehab we may not start with these exercises, but they're always a goal for our tennis players to get to so that they can return to the tennis court with confidence that they can smash the ball.

Special thanks to For teaching us the thought process of how to come up with exercises that look and feel like the sport our athletes are training for.
