Just because you handled it well doesn't mean it wasn't hard.

You built the career.
You raised the family.
You showed up when you were exhausted.
You carried responsibilities no one else could see.
You figured things out because people were counting on you.

And somewhere along the way, you convinced yourself that because you could handle it, you should be able to keep handling it.

I know this feeling because I've lived it.

For years, I wore my ability to push through as a badge of honor. I thought being capable meant I should be able to carry it all.

But I've learned that being good at doing hard things doesn't mean they aren't taking a toll.

Sometimes the cost shows up as exhaustion, anxiety, poor sleep, a mind that won't shut off, or the inability to truly relax.

You can be proud of everything you've accomplished AND acknowledge what it has cost you.

Both can be true.

And you don't have to wait until you're completely burned out to start taking care of yourself. 🤍

For six years, both of my kids played three sports each while I was running a practice.

There was always somewhere to be. A game, a practice, a patient, or somewhere we were already running late to.

Now, having a few hours with nothing on my schedule feels like luxury.

And honestly? It still feels weird.

I love the freedom, but I catch myself wondering what I’m forgetting or what I should be getting done.

After years of arranging my days around where everyone needed me, I’m learning how to enjoy time that belongs to me.

Sometimes that means having tea, taking a walk, or staying home without making the afternoon useful.

I loved cheering for my kids. I’m allowed to love this quieter chapter, too. 💜

Does an empty afternoon feel wonderful, uncomfortable—or a little of both?

In 2023, I had what I thought I wanted.

A full schedule. A waiting list. More patients than I could see.

And I was miserable.

It’s hard to admit that when you’ve worked so hard for the very thing that’s exhausting you.

I felt like I should be grateful. This was what I had wanted, so why wasn’t I happier?

But wanting patients didn’t mean I wanted every minute of my day filled. Loving my work didn’t mean I had endless energy to give it.

I wanted to care for people and still have something left when I went home.

You’re allowed to change how you do something you once prayed for. You can appreciate the opportunities and still want room to breathe.

Have you ever reached a goal and realized the way you were living it wasn’t working for you? 💜

I can understand why something feels urgent and still feel the pull to respond immediately.

The unanswered text. A change in the schedule. Someone else’s disappointment.

Knowing how the nervous system works doesn’t make me immune to those moments.

There’s a lot of nervous system advice online. As a chiropractor, I’ve studied nervous system anatomy and physiology, and I work with patients every day. That clinical background matters to me—and so does being honest about my own experience.

I still struggle to pause. I still catch myself trying to fix things that don’t need fixing right now.

Understanding the pattern gives me a place to start. Practicing a different response takes time.

“I’ll sit down when this is done.”

Then there’s another load of laundry. One more message. Something you remember the second you finally get comfortable.

I’ve spent plenty of evenings waiting for the moment when everything was handled and I could finally relax.

That moment rarely came. And when it did, I was too tired to enjoy it.

I’m learning to stop at a reasonable point, even when there’s more I could do. To drink my tea while the laundry waits. To enjoy an evening without turning it into preparation for tomorrow.

There will still be responsibilities in the morning. I’m allowed to rest tonight.

What’s something you can let wait today? 💜

“Why can’t I handle this better?”

I’ve asked myself that more times than I can count.

Usually while running a business, caring for patients, thinking about my family, and mentally keeping track of everything that still needed to happen.

I kept looking for something to fix in myself. More discipline. Better organization. A routine that would somehow make it all feel manageable.

I rarely stopped to ask whether I was carrying too much.

When you’ve handled everything for so long, it’s easy for everyone—including you—to assume you can keep doing it forever.

You’re allowed to reconsider what you carry. Ask someone else to take responsibility. Let a task wait. Make room for your own needs before you’re completely depleted.

What’s one thing you wish you didn’t have to carry alone? 💜

“I’m fine.”

Then we check on everyone else. Answer the messages. Handle the problem. Notice who needs help before they even ask.

And when someone asks how we’re doing, “fine” comes out before we’ve even stopped to consider the answer.

Sometimes explaining how tired we are feels like one more thing we don’t have energy for. Sometimes we’re so used to caring for everyone else that we forget we’re allowed to need care, too.

I know this pattern well. 💜

Can I get an amen? How many of you can relate? Let me know in the comments.

This has been me for years.

Showing up for my patients. Running the business. Taking care of my family. Being the person people could count on.

And because I kept doing all of it, I kept telling myself I must be okay.

I didn’t know how to reconcile being so capable with feeling so exhausted. I could get through the day, but I wanted more than getting through it. I wanted energy left to enjoy the life I was working so hard to maintain.

It’s hard to admit you need support when everyone is used to you being the support.

But you don’t have to wait until you can’t function to take your exhaustion seriously. You’re allowed to ask for help while you’re still showing up.

Before you even get out of bed, you’re already at work in your head.

The message you need to answer.
The decision you haven’t made.
Everything you need to remember for everyone else.

You haven’t had a sip of coffee, and you already feel behind.

Lately, my idea of a rich life includes having a few minutes in the morning that belong to me. Enjoying my tea without mentally sorting the entire day. Letting myself wake up before I start responding to what everyone needs.

I still have responsibilities. I just want room to experience my life alongside them.

If you recognize yourself in this, download my free Nervous System Healing Guide through the link in my bio. It’s a place to begin making space for yourself, too. 💜

My dad died on July 4th.

Most of my patients had no idea.

I only missed work for the funeral. Then I came back and kept showing up for everyone. I took care of my patients, carried my responsibilities, and went on with my days.

I never really gave myself room to let it hit me.

There was always someone to care for. Something to handle. A reason to keep moving.

Looking back, being able to show up didn’t mean I was okay. It meant I knew how to keep going, even while I was hurting.

If you’re still sad about something other people think you should be over, you don’t have to defend that sadness. You’re allowed to miss someone. To have a hard day. To need support long after life around you has returned to normal.

I’m giving myself that permission, too. 💜
