We are delighted to honor Shirley McDonnell as our Resident of the Month for June!
Shirley was born on April 15, 1947, in Fort Wayne. She has been married twice and is the proud grandmother of four grandchildren.
Professionally, Shirley worked in customer service for many years. A notable highlight of her career was winning a vacation to Hawaii, which she fondly remembers.
Through her church, Shirley has dedicated herself to numerous mission projects over the years. In addition to local initiatives, she participated in mission trips to Florida and Africa.
Shirley has a deep love for music and singing. She was a member of the Fort Wayne Festival Peace Choir for 16 years. A significant experience during this time was traveling to Germany and Poland’s Auschwitz with the choir. In Germany, she performed a solo in “You Never Failed Me Yet” during a concert. Visiting the concentration camps, particularly seeing the living quarters and being in a place where so many suffered, left a profound and lasting impression on her.
At Heritage Park, Shirley has quickly become an active and cherished member of the community. She has enthusiastically made new friends and participates in activities such as arts and crafts, music sessions, bingo games, holiday parties, special events, and social visits. Her warm and genuine smile brightens the room and makes people feel special.
We are truly grateful to have Shirley as part of the Heritage Park community!
