Opening in August, 2022, Gallup Community Health is a community-based clinic providing primary care for all ages, reproductive health and urologic care. Excellent care. Available to all. This is the guiding principle behind Gallup Community Health (GCH). Created by local physicians and healthcare workers concerned about the lack of primary care access in Gallup and McKinley County, the New Mexico

county with the largest primary care provider deficit according to the US Health Resources and Services Administration. Mission: Gallup Community Health’s mission is to provide excellent and accessible medical care to our community, regardless of ability to pay. Vision: We envision a community where each member achieves their optimal potential wellness.

We know that getting needed services to kids in their earliest years is one of the most important ways we can improve the health of our community. In response to our commitment to grow excellent services in our area, GCH sponsored Theraplay Training. Thanks to a generous grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, many of our excellent local Behavioral Health providers have been able to gain skills in helping heal trauma and attachment problems in the early years. (And they had lots of fun learning!)

When local healthcare professionals first met to consider ways to sustain and improve outpatient care in Gallup, the team quickly settled on the model of the Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC). FQHCs have long provided the healthcare safety net for patients facing barriers to care and we felt that building an organization based on the philosophy and guiding principles of the health center movement was exactly what McKinley County needed.

Last week GCH was awarded status as a full FQHC. For me, this is confirmation that with vision, outstanding colleagues, determination and lots of hard work, big goals are very achievable. This milestone, though, would not have been possible without the help, trust, and support provided by our patients and community. Big thank you to everyone who worked to make this big goal a reality - a reality that has provided healthcare for more than 16,000 patients in these four years.

Our growing team!

In July, GCH celebrated our 4th birthday! We had a great afternoon of team-building and celebration. Each year we take a 1/2 day in McGaffey to remember how far we've come, and it certainly is a long way from the 5-6 people that attended our very first birthday picnic! Thank you, McKinley County, for trusting us with your care!
