Scholarship Recipient Spotlight: Sofia DeLange

We are proud to recognize Sofia DeLange, a 2026 Healthcare Scholarship recipient and Douglas High School alumna, for her compassion, resilience, and commitment to serving others through physical therapy.

Sofia recently completed her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with a Pre-Physical Therapy concentration at Oregon State University and will begin her Doctorate of Physical Therapy program at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas this summer.

Her passion for physical therapy has been shaped by both personal experience and service to others. After her grandfather underwent emergency brain surgery following a subdural hematoma, Sofia watched him relearn how to walk and regain his independence through physical therapy. Years later, Sofia faced her own recovery journey after hip surgery ended her Division I rowing career. Through months of rehabilitation, she rebuilt her strength and discovered firsthand the life-changing impact compassionate care can have on a patient’s confidence and recovery.

“These experiences gave me a deeper appreciation for the personalized nature of physical therapy and the impact it can have on a patient’s quality of life,” Sofia shared.

Sofia’s commitment to service extends far beyond the classroom. During college, she volunteered weekly at the South Corvallis Food Bank and participated in a service trip to the Dominican Republic, where she helped expand an orphanage alongside fellow student-athletes.

Receiving the Carson Valley Health Foundation scholarship will help support Sofia as she continues her graduate-level healthcare education and prepares for a future serving rural and underserved communities in Northern Nevada.

Professionally, Sofia hopes to help bridge barriers to rehabilitation care in rural communities by providing compassionate, patient-centered treatment. Personally, she enjoys staying active through running, gravel biking, and fitness training, and hopes to complete another marathon and a HYROX competition in the future.

Sofia also loves to travel and has set a goal of visiting 30 countries before turning 30 years old — she has already visited 10.

Scholarship Recipient Spotlight: Emersyn Worthington

We are proud to recognize Emersyn Worthington, a 2026 Healthcare Scholarship recipient and graduating senior from Douglas High School, for her strength, optimism, and passion for making a difference through healthcare.

This fall, Emersyn will attend the University of Arizona to pursue her nursing career, where she looks forward to learning from leading researchers and healthcare professionals while preparing to make a meaningful impact in the medical field.

Emersyn’s passion for healthcare comes from deeply personal experiences. Shortly after her fourth birthday, she was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia and spent more than two years undergoing treatment. During that time, the kindness and compassion shown by her nurses left a lasting impact on her life and inspired her future career path.

“My nurses were some of the absolute best,” Emersyn shared. “They always made me feel comfortable and explained what was happening in a way that I could understand.”

One memory in particular has stayed with her through the years. After developing a fever late one night during treatment, Emersyn had to return to the hospital and was devastated about missing school. A nurse brought her a lollipop and coloring book to help lift her spirits.

“It’s moments like that which I remember, not the scary ones,” she said. “I knew then, just as much as I know today, that I would one day be in the medical field.”

Receiving this scholarship has provided Emersyn with meaningful support as she begins her college journey.

“This scholarship means more than financial assistance,” Emersyn said. “It represents encouragement, belief, and an investment in my future.”

Outside of academics, Emersyn enjoys hiking, spending time at the beach, playing volleyball, and being with family and friends. She also lives by the verse Matthew 6:21: “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also,” which serves as a reminder to focus on the people and values that matter most.

The CVH Foundation is honored to support students like Emersyn who are driven by compassion, perseverance, and a desire to give back through healthcare.

Scholarship Recipient Spotlight: Audrey Chase

The Carson Valley Health Foundation is proud to recognize Audrey Chase, a 2026 Healthcare Scholarship recipient and graduating senior from Douglas High School, for her passion, determination, and commitment to a future in healthcare.

This fall, Audrey will attend Utah Tech University to pursue a degree in radiologic technology with the goal of becoming a CT Technologist. She hopes to later specialize in CT and MRI while serving patients in a nearby hospital setting.

Although Audrey always knew she wanted to work in healthcare, she wasn’t initially sure which path was right for her. After being introduced to radiology by her uncle, she began shadowing professionals at Carson Valley Health and Carson Tahoe. Those experiences confirmed that medical imaging was the career she wanted to pursue.

“I had no idea what I wanted to do, but I knew I wanted to help others,” Audrey shared. “Once I shadowed in radiology, I knew that was the path for me.”

Throughout high school, Audrey explored several healthcare careers through shadowing opportunities, including respiratory therapy, sonography, MRI/CT, laboratory science, and operating room services. Her willingness to learn and explore reflects both her strong work ethic and passion for patient care.

Audrey credits much of her drive and determination to her parents, who taught her the importance of hard work and pursuing a meaningful career. Receiving the Carson Valley Health Foundation scholarship has helped ease some of the financial stress that comes with higher education and allows her to focus on achieving her goals.

“Receiving this scholarship means so much to me,” she said. “It will really help with student loans and lessen financial stress. I feel honored to have received this scholarship.”

Outside of academics, Audrey enjoys photography, hiking, spending time with friends, and being outdoors. She is excited for her upcoming move to St. George, Utah, where she looks forward to new opportunities and experiences.

We are honored to support students like Audrey who are passionate about building the future of healthcare in our communities.
