Wrapping up National Respiratory Care Week with a big thank you to the specially trained Respiratory Therapists at Carson Valley Health. From providing care in the Emergency Room and hospital units, to performing pulmonary function tests, to helping patients manage asthma and COPD, their expertise makes a real difference for adults and kids alike.

We are thrilled to welcome Family Medicine Physician Ashley Anders, DO, to the Primary Care Minden Village team!

Dr. Anders takes a whole-person approach to care for patients of all ages, from newborns to older adults. Her experience includes pediatrics, behavioral health (ADHD, autism, trauma), and addiction medicine.

Dr. Anders is passionate about building long-term relationships with families. She and her husband look forward to making Carson Valley their home. She also loves the outdoors and has visited 28 national parks, with plans to hike the Tahoe Rim Trail.

The Community Health Fair was a success! The CVH team provided 78 free flu shots, and 175 community members connected with health and wellness tips and expert Medicare open enrollment guidance from local brokers.

Thank you to the volunteers, team members, and community partners who shared their time and resources to help make health and wellness accessible in Carson Valley.

A stronger future for rural healthcare starts with training the next generation of nurses to meet the needs of rural communities. Nursing in a rural environment has its own set of challenges and responsibilities. Nurses will need to have experience of working in a rural healthcare environment to be adequately prepared for these roles.

University of Nevada, Reno has received a $3 million grant to expand rural nursing education at its UNR at Lake Tahoe campus. Carson Valley Health is proud to be part of this effort, receiving $80,000 to support the nursing students and their clinical mentors.

By working together, we are helping nurses to gain the skills and experience they need to provide care to Nevada's rural communities today and in the future.

If you’ve smoked in the past, an annual scan is a simple way to look after your health and gain peace of mind.

A Low-Dose CT (LDCT) lung cancer screening is quick and painless—it takes less than a minute and can catch lung cancer early, when it’s most treatable.

You may qualify for screening if you:
➡️ Are age 50–80
➡️ Currently smoke or quit within the last 15 years
➡️ Have had a 20+ pack-year smoking history. For example, one pack a day for 20 years or two packs a day for 10 years.

Shannon Rogers, CEO, recently met with Presidential appointee Victoria Seaman, Regional Director of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and Douglas County leadership. Ms. Seaman visited our community to learn about rural health issues, concerns, and achievements. She shared federal funding opportunities and discussed the current administration's agenda to support rural health and rural communities.

Carson Valley Health was recently awarded approximately $2 million from the Rural Health Transformation Program and is working closely with the Nevada Rural Hospital Partnership to implement these funds. Grants will support hospital infrastructure upgrades, regional transportation solutions, behavioral health initiatives, workforce development opportunities, and increased access to healthcare providers.

We look forward to using these amazing grants to continue caring for our patients, because we are stronger together.
