When I'm treating patients', there are many times where the pain they are experiencing is not where the pain is derived. Often times, treating the area that is painful won't help get rid of the symptoms. It is true that the body needs rest, but being sedentary for long periods can be detrimental to many different systems in your body. Your joints can stiffen, you can feel weaker, and you might have more pain as a result. You need both mobility and flexibility, but they are useful for different purposes. Mobility of your joints is necessary for you to perform functional activities, such as getting out of chair, walking around the house, and reaching overhead. Flexibility is the ability for your muscles to move throughout a range with less restriction, such as touching your toes or scratching your back. These are great tips to remember. You don't have to stretch as much as move your body every 30-60 minutes. Changing your position while working can really help minimize the tightness of the hip flexors and the lengthening and weakening of glut muscles that comes from sitting. It could be tight or weak pelvic floor muscles, a dysfunction with your breathing, or other musculoskeletal issues.
