The excitement of a new school year is officially in the air, and for so many Gillette families, that means the return of youth sports! 🏈⚽ While we love seeing our local student-athletes hit the field and court with so much energy, the sudden shift from summer break to intense daily practices can be a lot on growing bodies. In fact, the first two weeks of the school year are often the busiest for unexpected twists, strains, and sports injuries.
To help your kids stay in the game and out of the clinic, here is a quick back-to-school checklist for a safe season.
First, make sure they are easing back into hydration- don't wait until practice starts to drink water, as proper hydration begins the night before. Second, check that last year’s cleats and protective gear still fit properly, as a sudden growth spurt over the summer can alter their stride and support. Finally, encourage them to listen to their bodies and speak up about early soreness before it turns into a sidelined injury.
We are wishing all of our Gillette athletes a fantastic, healthy, and competitive season ahead! If an unexpected bump or strain does happen, remember that Black Rock Advanced Medical Imaging is right here in your neighborhood to help get you answers quickly. 🤍
