Go to the park and learn how to Save A Life! We are offering Hands-Free CPR training in 9 different Shaler Township parks over 2 days, August 8th and August 22nd.

Although the sessions are one hour each - believe it or not, it won't take nearly that long to learn Hands-Only CPR.

We'll also be introducing the AED's that are available in 10 Shaler Parks, along with Stop the Bleed kits and Narcan.

No experience is necessary—just stop by and learn!

We wanted to share this post from our partners at the Shaler Township Police Department to emphasize the safety perspective. We have had several patients from e-bike and electric scooter crashes, and some with significant injuries. We certainly encourage everyone to follow the law, but no matter what, wear the appropriate safety equipment, especially a helmet!

Today we honored a cornerstone of Shaler Hampton EMS, our Business Coordinator, Tim Banyas, for 30 years of service!

Tim started here exactly 30 years ago today with Shaler Area EMS, which served only Shaler Township at that time. Dedicated, loyal, community-focused, and always willing to step up for whatever is needed, he came here in an administrative role but eventually became an EMT as yet another way to serve the organization and the community. He has also been a key contributor to our growth to service both the Borough of Etna and Hampton Township.

Today, Tim oversees all of the business functions that are vital to the success of a small nonprofit organization—paying the bills, making sure our bills get paid, managing payroll, onboarding new staff, serving as our organizational historian, and still being the safety valve who jumps on an ambulance when needed. Very few people are cast from that mold these days, and we are incredibly fortunate to have him.

Thank you, Tim, for 30 years of dedication and service!

A great article in today's Trib about the dangers of the heat that we will experience this entire week - featuring a member of our Board of Directors and Shaler Township resident, Christian Martin-Gill, MD. Well worth the read, and please remember to take care of yourself, but also the very young and our seniors - both are at a greater risk from the heat. Also a great time to be a Good Neighbor!

Hurricanes, flash floods and earthquakes may present as more directly threatening, but no weather kills more people each year than excessive heat, according to the National Weather Service. From 1999 to 2023, annual heat-related deaths in the U.S. more than doubled to 2,325, according to a 2024 stud...

Every year, Shaler Hampton EMS brings together our Board of Directors and staff for a joint meeting. This year, we expanded the event by inviting local elected and appointed officials to our First Annual Community Leaders Briefing.

We were thrilled by the outstanding turnout and strong representation from Etna Borough, Hampton Township, and Shaler Township. We were also honored to welcome Senator Lindsey Williams, who has been a tremendous supporter of Shaler Hampton EMS and the EMS profession.

All three of our state representatives—Representative Arvind Venkat, Representative Lindsay Powell, and Representative Jeremy Schaeffer—were invited but were in Harrisburg carrying out the important work they were elected to do. We appreciate Representative Powell having her Chief of Staff, Will Taylor, attend on her behalf.

The evening brought together three groups that are essential to our success:

- Our staff, who provide exceptional care at the bedside, roadside, and wherever and whenever help is needed.

- Our volunteer Board of Directors, whose dedication, leadership, and business expertise help guide our organization and ensure we remain focused on serving our communities.

- Our elected and appointed leaders, whose support and partnership help strengthen emergency medical services for the residents we serve.

The reality is that we cannot do it alone. While health insurance payments are an important source of revenue, 82% of the time, insurance reimbursement does not cover the actual cost of providing ambulance service. Strong community partnerships and engaged local leadership are essential to ensuring that high-quality emergency medical care remains available when our residents need it most.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to attend, learn more about Shaler Hampton EMS, and engage in meaningful conversation about the future of EMS. Also, thank you to our Board President, Bill Cross, for his opening comments, and thank you to Hampton Township for the use of your Community Center.

We look forward to making the Community Leaders Briefing an annual tradition.
