Their device achieved a removal rate of 84% to 94% in lab tests, offering a promising solution to a pervasive environmental issue.

The duo's invention was inspired by a visit to a water treatment plant, where they learned about the challenges in removing microplastics from wastewater. Recognizing the limitations of existing methods, they designed a more efficient and environmentally friendly solution. Their efforts were recognized with the Gordon E. Moore Award for Positive Outcomes for Future Generations at the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair.

Norway Unveils the World's First Wireless Charging Road for Electric Vehicles

Norway has once again taken the global lead in clean transportation innovation—this time with a groundbreaking first: a wireless charging road for electric vehicles. In the city of Trondheim, a 100-meter stretch of road now charges electric buses wirelessly as they drive, thanks to inductive charging coils embedded beneath the surface.

The system works similarly to how a wireless phone charger does, but on a much larger scale. Copper coils generate an electromagnetic field that transmits energy to a receiver on the underside of the EV—without any need for plugs or charging stations. The pilot project is specifically focused on electric buses from Yutong and Higer, which will be monitored over the next year to assess charging speed, durability, and performance during harsh Scandinavian winters.

This project is a collaboration between Norway and Israeli tech firm Electreon Wireless, which developed the inductive charging tech. If successful, it could revolutionize public transport by eliminating charging stops and drastically improving efficiency.

By seamlessly integrating energy delivery into the road, this innovation could become a game-changer not only for buses, but eventually for taxis, delivery fleets, and even private vehicles—redefining what it means to “fuel up
