The Gathering Place provides compassionate, non-judgmental mental health and substance use support grounded in lived experience. This happens through a wide range of services, including one-on-one peer support, peer-led support groups, resource navigation, and meaningful activities and events. Danny first came to The Gathering Place seeking support for his own mental health and recovery journey. As he engaged in peer support services, he made the decision to give back, transforming his experience into a source of hope and encouragement for others. Rather than limiting his involvement to his own healing, he chose to volunteer his time, energy, and resources to support fellow members.
Danny regularly assists staff with daily tasks, such as preparing coffee, setting up activities, and helping maintain shared spaces. He also helps facilitate activities for members and is especially well known for calling bingo at The Gathering Place. Through this role, Danny actively engages people, encourages participation, and helps create an environment where individuals feel comfortable connecting with others. In addition to his weekly volunteer hours, he has supported numerous special events throughout the year, always willing to step in wherever help is needed.
Danny’s reliability, positive attitude, and consistent presence motivate those around him. Members see in him a living example of what recovery can look like, because he has faced challenges, sought support, and now gives back. For individuals in the early stages of recovery or struggling to believe change is possible, Danny’s actions offer tangible hope. This then has a ripple effect: when members feel supported, valued, and connected, they are better equipped to pursue stability, wellness, and meaningful participation in the wider community. Thank you, Danny, for your steady commitment, compassionate engagement, and willingness to go above and beyond!
