Water play can be a fun way for toddlers to cool off and explore during warmer months, but even small amounts of water can pose a safety risk. Toddlers should always have close, hands-on adult supervision during any water activity, including splash pads, kiddie pools, water tables, and buckets.

Water tables, small pools, and buckets should be emptied immediately after use to help prevent accidental drowning risks.

At splash pads and public play areas, watch carefully for slippery surfaces, standing water, and crowded environments where children can quickly wander.

Floaties and puddle jumpers should never replace direct adult supervision. While some flotation devices may add a layer of protection, the safest approach is always active, attentive supervision within arm’s reach.

Have questions about water safety for your toddler? Contact one of our phone nurses today for guidance before summer activities begin.

A question we hear a lot is: ""Should my child stay on their medication over the summer?""

For many children, consistency matters. Summer may look different, but kids are still learning, building routines, strengthening executive function skills, and navigating social situations.

Every child is different, so decisions about medications should be individualized.

If you have questions about your child’s treatment plan, schedule an appointment and let’s talk through what makes the most sense for your family.
