Hot pavement can cause painful paw pad burns in seconds. Before your pet walks on sidewalks, asphalt, or sand, use the back-of-hand test: place your hand on the surface for 5–7 seconds. If it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for paws.
Choose shaded routes, walk during cooler hours, and consider protective booties. If you notice limping, redness, or blistering, contact your veterinarian right away.
