Our very own Courtney Sott, Senior EnrichedLIFE Director, had the honor of being featured in U.S. News and World Report on Intergenerational Programs for Senior Living! We are so proud to be able to offer intergenerational programs at our community, which allow residents to build meaningful relationships and help them connect with younger generations. Programs pairing seniors and children offer a powerful solution to combat senior isolation, loneliness and ageism, while simultaneously boosting child development, academic performance and mental well-being for both generations.

I have to include a few more photos from our awesome Sock Hop yesterday in our Compass neighborhood. A must see photo of our stunning Senior Resident Care Director, Tara with our resident, Judy and another photo of our fantastic Program Assistant, Dana with her Dad, Dick. If you check out a earlier post from this month, you will see that Dick was the recipient of May’s lifetime Achievement Award for his amazing life, and contributions to the Exeter community, and for being the Sunshine Ambassador in our Compass neighborhood. Lastly, a photo of Dick. Once again, he is dressed to the nines, bringing smiles and sunshine wherever he goes.

We decided to switch our Spring Fling party to a Nifty 50's celebration. We passed out fedoras to the gentlemen, and Rhinestone cat eyeglasses, poodle skirts and headbands to the ladies. Everyone enjoyed a diner themed lunch and we had fun dancing to the incredible music of Ralphie B. We finished today’s festivities with chocolate milk shakes. Today brought back so many wonderful memories for everyone. It was an opportunity to take a trip down memory lane, and remember the fads, the food and music of this amazing decade!

Today was special. It was our first introduction to Seacoast Wheelers, a non profit from Kittery, ME that provides bike rides for those who cannot ride themselves anymore. As the afternoon went on, residents were curious and trickled to the courtyard to see the fun being had by those riding. There were huge smiles, laughter, even some tears of joy. Our hearts are full today. Thank you isn’t enough….

We had a wonderful visit this week with some students from The Seabrook Middle School. We were all very impressed with their kindness, and ability to jump in and have a conversation with people they were meeting for the first time! One student played the guitar, and we had fun singing together. The best part of course, is making new friends.

We had a very special Lifetime Achievement Celebration this month to honor our "Sunshine Ambassador", Dick Manix. Dick is not only a great friends to our residents, but he is also the adopted dad of our program assistant, Dana. This was actually the first time we celebrated someone other than a resident, but we knew, we had to acknowledge his importance to our community, and the joy he brings to the resident's lives. Dick joins us for proms, luau's , holidays and celebrations. He dresses up for each occasion, and makes the rounds, talking and socializing with everyone he meets. His interest is genuine, and he remembers their conversation the next time they meet. Everyone lights up when they see his face! He truly is a ray of sunshine for each member of the Cornerstone at Hampton community. So, a little bit more about Dick's amazing life. He is a longtime resident of Exeter, NH. He had a men's retail business, Chet's, many years ago. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, spent 52 years as a member of the Knights of Columbus- the last 8, as the Admission and Retention Director, and was a member of AARP and American Legion Post 32. Dick loves to keep busy, and works at Jerry's Convenience Store. He is also a Usher for Saint Michaels Church, and this Monday is once again, the Grand Marshall at Exeter's Memorial Day Parade. On a personal level, Dick is an inspiration to me. He is timeless and relevant. He shows us that age is just a number, and that there are always opportunities to make a difference in the lives of others.
