We had a very special Lifetime Achievement Celebration this month to honor our "Sunshine Ambassador", Dick Manix. Dick is not only a great friends to our residents, but he is also the adopted dad of our program assistant, Dana. This was actually the first time we celebrated someone other than a resident, but we knew, we had to acknowledge his importance to our community, and the joy he brings to the resident's lives. Dick joins us for proms, luau's , holidays and celebrations. He dresses up for each occasion, and makes the rounds, talking and socializing with everyone he meets. His interest is genuine, and he remembers their conversation the next time they meet. Everyone lights up when they see his face! He truly is a ray of sunshine for each member of the Cornerstone at Hampton community. So, a little bit more about Dick's amazing life. He is a longtime resident of Exeter, NH. He had a men's retail business, Chet's, many years ago. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, spent 52 years as a member of the Knights of Columbus- the last 8, as the Admission and Retention Director, and was a member of AARP and American Legion Post 32. Dick loves to keep busy, and works at Jerry's Convenience Store. He is also a Usher for Saint Michaels Church, and this Monday is once again, the Grand Marshall at Exeter's Memorial Day Parade. On a personal level, Dick is an inspiration to me. He is timeless and relevant. He shows us that age is just a number, and that there are always opportunities to make a difference in the lives of others.
