🌟 Celebrating our RISEing Star, Laurie Jansen! 🌟

Laurie’s compassion, dedication, and genuine care for others make a difference every day. As Senior Care Manager for Outpatient Services, she goes above and beyond to help patients navigate their care, especially when they are facing challenges or feeling overwhelmed.

Recently, Laurie supported a patient she had previously worked with who experienced significant healthcare anxiety and had struggled to make it to appointments because of anxiety and transportation barriers. When Laurie learned the patient had an appointment scheduled around the time of his hospital discharge, she stepped in to help make it possible.

Laurie coordinated with the care team and personally escorted the patient to his appointment at Hannibal Regional Medical Group, providing the reassurance and familiar support he needed. What may have seemed like a simple gesture made a meaningful difference for this patient and helped him feel safe and cared for during a vulnerable time.

This is just one example of the countless ways Laurie advocates for and supports her patients. She consistently leads with kindness and empathy and has a deep commitment to helping others. She is also an exceptional team player who readily supports her colleagues and contributes to a positive, collaborative work environment.

Laurie's work ethic is unmatched. She is dependable, loyal, and always follows through on her commitments. Her selflessness extends beyond the workplace as well. As a living kidney donor, Laurie has demonstrated the same generosity and compassion in her personal life that she brings to her work every day.

Beyond her exceptional skills and dedication, Laurie brings joy to those around her. Her infectious laugh, enthusiasm, and quick wit brighten the workplace, and it is truly an honor to work alongside her.

Congratulations, Laurie, on being a RISEing Star! We are so grateful for the heart you bring to everything you do. 🌟👏

Hannibal Regional is honored to share that we recently received a $1 million grant from the Missouri Foundation for Health to benefit regional cancer care in the Hannibal and Kirksville areas! Missouri Foundation for Health’s grant is designated to assist in the purchase of two new linear accelerators, the equipment that delivers external beam radiation to fight cancer. A new state-of-the- art linear accelerator has been purchased for the Cary Cancer Center in Hannibal and will be used to treat cancer patients by December of this year. Construction on a new cancer center in Kirksville is on track for a June 2027 opening, and the linear accelerator for this new, much needed cancer center, is partially funded through Missouri Foundation for Health’s grant.

Radiation oncology services have not been available in Kirksville for over four years, so currently patients facing a cancer diagnosis that require radiation oncology are forced to travel 90 miles each way, five days a week, often for 4 to 6 weeks to receive their treatment. Hannibal Regional is humbled and honored to receive Missouri Foundation for Health’s support in bringing these life-saving services back to Kirksville. “We are so grateful for our long-standing partnership with the Missouri Foundation for Health. Over the years we have worked together on many projects to help improve the lives of our patients and communities, bringing better health to rural areas,” shares Todd Ahrens, our President & CEO.
