The Arkansas Department of Health is reporting an increase in cases of cyclospora (cyclosporiasis) across the state. While most people recover with appropriate treatment, it's important to know the symptoms and seek care if you become ill.

Common symptoms include:
• Watery diarrhea
• Loss of appetite
• Weight loss
• Stomach cramps or bloating
• Nausea
• Fatigue

Symptoms often begin about a week after exposure and can last for several weeks if left untreated. Cyclosporiasis is typically spread through contaminated food or water, not from person to person.

If you're experiencing these symptoms, please contact your healthcare provider for evaluation and treatment.

Have you or someone you love recently been admitted at NARMC or been a patient at our Claude Parrish Cancer Center? We are looking for participants for our Patient and Family Advisory Committee!

The Patient and Family Advisory Committee (PFAC) partners with hospital staff and leadership to ensure that care is respectful, responsive, and inclusive of patient and family needs. As a PFAC member, you’ll collaborate on policies, programs, and quality initiatives that impact the patient experience. We meet on a quarterly basis to review projects, policies, and pressing issues for our patients and their families.

Committee members contribute in several important ways, including:
✓ Advocating for patients and families by sharing real-life experiences and offering insights to help improve care and communication.
✓ Collaborating with clinical and administrative staff to support initiatives that enhance patient-centered care.
✓ Providing feedback on hospital projects and facility updates, including renovations and remodels, to ensure decisions reflect the needs of those we serve.

Our hearts are full after another wonderful Baby Fest!

We are incredibly thankful for every family who joined us, every provider who generously shared their time and expertise, as well as each vendor that contributed to a day filled with education, encouragement, and community engagement.

A huge thank you to our generous sponsors: OUR Local Lead Organization, North Arkansas Medical Foundation, Gates Prosthetic + Mobility Clinic, and Stone Bank. Without their support, we wouldn’t have been able to provide so many valuable resources and giveaways for families in our community.

There is something truly special about bringing families, providers and our community together to celebrate one of life's greatest blessings. We can't wait to see you again at next year's Baby Fest!

At NARMC, support begins long before birth and continues well beyond delivery. If you need additional support, help finding a primary care and/or obstetrics provider, would like a tour of NARMC's labor and delivery unit, or just want to learn more about your delivery journey, we're here to help.

Reach out by submitting an inquiry through our website at https://www.narmc.com/about/contact-us or emailing us directly at [email protected].

☀️ Extreme heat is more than a summertime inconvenience. It can become a serious health concern, especially for young children, older adults, outdoor workers, and those with ongoing health conditions.

Preparing ahead of time can help prevent heat-related illness. Stay hydrated, have a plan for staying cool, be aware of medications that may increase heat sensitivity, and learn to recognize the warning signs that your body is getting too hot.

During periods of extreme heat, remember to check on family members, friends, and neighbors who may need extra support.

An extra tip from our NARMC Trauma Team: Keep water in the car in case of emergencies or breakdowns in the heat!

Take a moment to review the CDC's Heat Action Plan below and make a plan before the next stretch of hot weather arrives.

MASH 2026 wrapped up last week and it was an amazing success! We want to extend heartfelt congratulations to the incredible students who spent the past two weeks learning, growing, and exploring future career opportunities. It has been a privilege to watch their curiosity, enthusiasm, and dedication shine each day.

A sincere thank you goes to our Education Department for creating such a thoughtful and engaging experience, as well as to all department leaders who opened their spaces and time to provide hands-on shadowing opportunities. These opportunities allowed students to gain meaningful insight into the daily practice of healthcare across a variety of fields.

From immersive experiences to meaningful connections with our team, our employees and these students embraced every opportunity to teach and learn. We are proud to invest in the next generation of healthcare professionals and community leaders. Thank you for bringing your energy, questions, and passion to NARMC.

Be sure to follow our education page for updates of future MASH programs and student opportunities.

MASH 2026 is done and we are completing the paperwork but we would like to take a few minutes to thank our wonderful sponsors. First we would like to thank Farm Bureau for being the Lead Sponsor and UAMS for facilitating the program. Here at NARMC we would like to thank all the clinics, the different departments and all the employees, without you we would not be successful. We would like to show our appreciation to our community sponsors who provided supplies and or food. Makin' Bacon, North Arkansas College, McDonalds North, Townhouse Cafe, Neighbors Mill, Little Caesars, Western Sizzlin, Nopalitos, T's BBQ, Culver's, and Dominos. The MASH program here at NARMC would not be successful without all these wonderful people. We would also like to thank this years students who took two weeks out of their schedule to come spend time with us. We hope as a result they are all successful in their future career choices.
