Made possible entirely through donor support, the Mary Reitz Nursing Scholarship invests in students who will help meet a growing need for skilled, compassionate healthcare professionals in our communities.

Each recipient brings a unique story and perspective to their journey, but they share a common goal: making a difference through nursing.

Flowers and creative recycling came together during a workshop with Valley Creative Reuse. Using primarily upcycled book covers and fresh flowers from the VMRC Farm, participants created their own presses and explored new perspectives to preserve the materials around us.

The class was about more than making something. It was a chance to share stories, discover what reused materials can become, and enjoy the simple act of creating together. That spirit is aligned with Valley Creative Reuse’s mission to keep creative materials out of the landfill while creating opportunities for grounding, connection, and joy.

The Montessori approach to life and care emphasizes living with purpose for both residents and staff. It's reflected in the kindness between neighbors, the respect shown to every individual, and the opportunities people have to stay engaged and connected. Across every service line and every role, these values help make everyone feel that they are truly home.

Teatime in Bloom brought residents and guests together for a beautiful late-summer afternoon filled with fresh VMRC Farm florals, tea sandwiches, scones, fruit, petite fours, tarts, and other sweet treats.

Harp and piano music by Daniel Over and our “Spill the Tea” conversations added to an afternoon of laughter, stories, and new connections, with two door prizes bringing a little extra delight.

From the garden-inspired tablescapes to the moments shared around the table, it was a sweet reminder that simple gatherings can create lasting memories.

Everyone who calls VMRC home brings a story shaped by culture, faith, family, and experience. This August, during Diversity Awareness Month, we're celebrating all of those stories and the beautiful community they create together.

If you've walked our halls lately, you may have noticed something special: residents, team members, and neighbors proudly wearing their VMRC for Equality stickers. Each one is a small but powerful expression of love and solidarity, honoring accessibility, pride, the civil rights movement, and gender equity. While these stickers name specific communities, they point to something bigger, our commitment to seeing, valuing, and celebrating every background and identity represented in our internal and external community.

Thanks to Senator Obenshain and Delegates Wilt and Runion for attention to issues that affect older adults and senior living communities. It was an honor to join Bridgewater Retirement Community and Sunnyside Retirement Community as we strive to assure high quality wellness, healthspan, and healthcare options for seniors in the Shenandoah Valley.

Today, leaders from Sunnyside Communities, Bridgewater Retirement Community, and VMRC joined LeadingAge Virginia for an important afternoon of advocacy and conversation at Bridgewater Retirement Community.

The group welcomed Senator Mark Obenshain, Delegate Tony Wilt, and Delegate Chris Runion for a discussion focused on Continuing Care Retirement Communities, also known as Life Plan Communities, and the important role they play in serving older adults across the Commonwealth.

Dana Parsons, Vice President and Legislative Counsel, and Tracey Lewis, Policy and Advocacy Coordinator with LeadingAge Virginia, helped lead a conversation focused on educating legislators about the CCRC business model, how it differs from other senior housing models, and the unique benefits these communities provide to residents, families, team members, and the regions they serve.

Sunnyside Communities was grateful for the opportunity to be at the table alongside fellow senior living leaders and to engage directly with legislators about the opportunities and challenges facing aging services in Virginia.

Collaboration and advocacy are essential to ensuring the voices of older adults and the organizations that serve them are represented in conversations that shape the future of senior living.

Our First Responders Appreciation Night was a meaningful evening dedicated to honoring the people behind the uniforms who make a difference every day serving our community.

We were grateful to collaborate with and welcome professionals from HPD, HFD, EMS, HRS, G&W Ambulance, and more to our campus for an evening of appreciation and recognition. It was a special opportunity to hear directly from these individuals about the commitment it takes to care for the communities within Harrisonburg and Rockingham.

We are especially grateful for the ways these dedicated professionals support our community and for being there when our residents and team need them most. With live music from Brett Eye, an ice cream social, and plenty of time for conversation and fellowship, it was a wonderful night filled with gratitude, connection, and recognition.

To all of our local first responders, thank you for your service, your sacrifice, and the countless ways you show up for the communities you serve. We are honored to celebrate with you and grateful for all that you do!
