A common question that Patients ask at our office!
Should I use ICE or HEAT?
ICE π§
What it does: Constricts blood vessels, reduces inflammation, and numbs pain. Best for: Fresh sprains, strains, bruises, joint pain, tendonitis, or any injury accompanied by swelling or redness.
HEAT π₯
What it does: Dilates blood vessels, increases circulation, and relieves tightness. Best for: Chronic pain, tension, stiff joints, or tight/spasmed muscles.
Also, many conditions can benefit from BOTH!
How to apply:
Duration: Apply for 10 to 20 minutes at a time.
Rest period: Remove the ice or heat and let your skin rest for at least 20 to 30 minutes before reapplying.
Protection: Always place a cloth or towel as a barrier between your skin and the ice pack or heat source.
