Comedy or Tragedy: Who’s Narrating Your Story?

(maybe even as an opportunity to practice 😉)

In the movie Stranger Than Fiction, Harold Crick, played by Will Ferrell, is given an unusual way to think about life. Professor Hilbert suggests that Harold needs to determine whether the story he is living is a comedy or a tragedy.

The answer may lie in the stories we tell ourselves...

For example, you can trip in front of a room full of people and spend the rest of the day replaying your humiliation—or decide that apparently gravity had you on its schedule and you were kind enough to show up.

You can look at a new treatment plan, a different way of communicating, or a skill that will take a lot of effort and while acknowledging that you never asked for the challenge, say to yourself, "Well, if life insists on giving me character development, I might as well become one heck of a character."

This DOESN'T MEAN : Every painful experience is due a silver lining. There are days that are unfair, frightening, lonely, and tough to get through.

This DOES suggest: KICKING OUT THE NARRATOR IN YOUR HEAD THAT IS ALWAYS TALKING TRASH.

Keep the narrator that it truthful, kind, and hopeful. ❤️

⭐ I N T E R N S P O T L I G H T ⭐

Trish recently spent time with us at Growing Kids Therapy Center and shared a few words about her experience, what she learned, and what made her visit so meaningful.

"I am honored to have done my internship and GKTC. Through this experience, I became more present, thoughtful, and intentional in the way I approach this work. I am leaving the internship with a broader perspective, a stronger sense of purpose, and a deeper appreciation for the impact we have when we take time to truly understand and meet people where they are."
