Meet Hope!

Hope Lunde, LMSW, CAADC has joined our team at Holland North and works with adolescents and adults 13 and up — walking alongside people navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, substance use, and those seasons of simply feeling stuck. At the center of Hope’s work is a deep conviction: the therapeutic relationship itself is one of the most important parts of healing. Clients can expect a welcoming, nonjudgmental space where they can feel safe being themselves.

Hope brings advanced training in addiction and substance use treatment, and enjoys meeting people at every stage of recovery while also tending to the emotional, relational, and mental health concerns that so often come with it. The approach is collaborative and tailored to each person — exploring the patterns and experiences that shaped a life, building on existing strengths, and developing practical tools for navigating what’s hard with more confidence and self-awareness.
Steady, compassionate, and genuinely in your corner, Hope is committed to helping clients build a life that feels healthier, more connected, and aligned with who they want to become.

The backpacks are packed, the schedules are shifting, and everyone’s finding their footing again. New school years bring a lot: new teachers, new routines, new social dynamics, and for plenty of kids (and parents), a wave of nerves underneath the excitement.

Whether your family started today, weeks ago, or is still counting down, we’re wishing you a steady year ahead!

The first few weeks of a school year rearrange everybody.

New alarms, a new drop-off line, new after-school hours and it isn’t only the kids doing the adjusting. Fall can be a lot at once, and some years you need more support than others.

Swipe through — one of these may be your house right now. We see adults, couples, teens, and kids from age three, at four offices across West Michigan and virtually anywhere in the state. To find a therapist who fits, head to leadlightcounseling.com

AutPlay® Therapy starts with a different question.

Instead of asking, “How do we change this behavior?” it asks, “What is this child communicating, and what support do they need?”

AutPlay is a neurodiversity-affirming, play-based therapeutic approach that meets children where they are—using play, movement, sensory experiences, and relationship to help build emotional regulation, communication, confidence, and connection. It recognizes that when children feel safe, understood, and regulated, they’re better able to learn, grow, and engage with the world around them.

At Leadlight Counseling, we’re proud to offer AutPlay Therapy through Brittany Riggins, MA, LPC, one of only nine Certified AutPlay® Therapy providers in Michigan. Brittany works alongside children and families to create individualized, relationship-centered therapy that honors each child’s unique strengths and needs.

Meet Stephanie!

Stephanie Laidlaw, LLMSW has joined our team at Wyoming and works with parents, caregivers, adults, and teens 13 and up — walking alongside the parents of kids navigating anxiety, depression, ADHD, autism, chronic illness, medical crises, grief, and school challenges.

At the center of her work is a deep conviction: caregivers deserve their own gentle space to slow down, process, and be safely supported through what can feel completely overwhelming.

She also sees adults working through life transitions, parenting and motherhood, pregnancy and postpartum, infertility and loss, perimenopause, identity, religious trauma, and burnout recovery.

Her approach is compassionate and trauma-informed — drawing from person-centered care, CBT, DBT, motivational interviewing, internal family systems, attachment and polyvagal theory, self-compassion, and somatic work — and it honors the connection between mind and body, making room for what the nervous system has been holding. She believes every person deserves to be seen, valued, and affirmed in their humanity. Stephanie believes everyone is capable of glimmers of hope and healing, even when the process is messy and gradual.

She is accepting new clients with immediate openings, so head over to leadlightcounseling.com to learn more or get scheduled!

Meet Nichole!

Nichole Byker, LMSW has joined our team at Holland North and works with adults, couples, and families — walking alongside people navigating trauma and abuse, domestic violence, difficult family dynamics, grief, major life transitions, and parenting challenges. At the center of her work is a deep conviction: healing happens in a safe, collaborative space, at your own pace. Together, she helps clients name what’s working, what isn’t, and the meaningful next steps toward lasting growth.

Nichole is bilingual in English and Spanish and passionate about supporting families navigating immigration, acculturation, and cultural identity. Her approach is integrative — drawing from attachment theory, Emotionally Focused Therapy, family systems, and experiential work — and as a Certified Positive Discipline Parent Educator, she equips parents with practical tools they can actually use at home.

“Here you are minding your business, doing what you were created to do: being a whole, intact window, doing window things. And then one day, someone throws a brick through it.”

Today’s post is written by our founder and executive director, Dr. Lindsey Blodgett, PhD, LPC

Lindsey has been asked plenty of times where the name Leadlight came from, and this is the first time she’s answered it in writing. It starts with a rose window in Dimnent Chapel at Hope College, moves through a metaphor she used with clients for years before there was ever a practice attached to it, and ends at the piece of glass hanging in her office that our whole brand is built on. Along the way: why healing isn’t necessarily restoration, why the pieces we’re left holding can harm the people around us before they become anything else, and a third element — the light — that took her the longest to make peace with.

“The final bell of the school year doesn’t just signal the start of summer; for parents of children with a PDA profile, it marks the end of a nine-month survival marathon.”

Our summer series wraps today — all about helping your kid (and you) thrive through the season. This week’s post is written by Cascade Site Supervisor and therapist Jennifer Hayden, LMSW.

Jennifer makes the case that for a child with a PDA profile, summer can’t just be a break from homework — it needs to be treated as “a vital, therapeutic nervous system reset.”

The post walks through what that looks like in practice: building a "decompression runway" after the school year ends, swapping clock-based schedules for visual anchors, adding buffers before and after activities, shifting to "declarative, invitational language" that lowers the demand load, offering choice menus organized by energy level, and honoring a child's intense interests as the regulating tools they really are.

Meet Meredith!

Meredith Thane, LLMSW, is a therapist at our Cascade office working with kids as young as 3, adolescents, young adults, and families.

Her approach is strengths-based and relational, which in practice means she builds sessions around what a kid is already good at and already interested in. Art and play give younger children a way to get big feelings out and practical skills in. With teens and young adults, the work often shifts toward clarifying values, building confidence, and finding footing during transitions. She supports clients navigating anxiety, depression, autism, ADHD, and behavioral, school, and family challenges — and she’s especially equipped to incorporate Christian faith-based interventions at your request.

Meredith also believes caregivers belong in the process, not just in the waiting room. She partners closely with parents, schools, and other supports, offering strategies, psychoeducation, and room to process the parenting wins and the hard days both. Because growth happens when kids feel safe, understood, and connected to the adults around them.

Meredith has some immediate openings — to learn more or get scheduled, head to leadlightcounseling.com!

Meet Marlies!

Marlies Adamson, LLMSW has joined our team at the Wyoming office and works with children, adolescents and young adults. She helps them navigate the challenges that show up in daily life: at home, at school, and within themselves.

Alongside her role at Leadlight, she is a special education school social worker at an elementary school in Byron Center, making her uniquely equipped to support kids with IEPs, behavioral challenges, emotional dysregulation, school refusal, and other school-related difficulties.

At the center of her work is a deep conviction: behavior is a form of communication. She works to understand what children are expressing through their behavior — consciously or unconsciously — so she can help them meet their needs in safer, more effective ways.

She is especially passionate about working with neurodivergent children and adolescents, including those on the Autism spectrum and those navigating trauma, anxiety, or mood dysregulation, and a neuroaffirming lens is central to everything she does. Her approach is flexible and engaging — drawing from play therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, nature-based work, and more — finding the right tools and strategies for each individual child rather than fitting them to a single approach. She provides inclusive, affirming care for clients with LGBTQIA+ identities and is committed to making sure every child and family feels genuinely welcome.

Marlies considers it a privilege to walk alongside each person — meeting them where they are and building the safety, skills, and confidence they need to thrive.
