AROO! AROO! AROO! 💪🔥

We came. We climbed. We crawled. We conquered!

Team Summit took on the Spartan 10K, and we're proud to say we all survived! From muddy obstacles to challenging climbs, our team showed what grit, determination, and teamwork can accomplish.

And the Spartan spirit didn't stop with the adults! Even our youngest warrior got in on the action, taking on the Spartan Kids Race and earning his own finish line victory! 🏅

We spend our days helping others push their limits. This weekend, it was our turn to put ourselves to the test.
Big or small, Spartans conquer it all!

💪 Aging gracefully looks a lot like this… 94 years strong!

While our Summit crew was doing some Barnyard Spartan training, she decided to show us how it’s done — lifting a 5-gallon jug of water at 94 years old!

This is exactly why we love what we do in physical therapy.

PT isn’t just about recovering from an injury. It’s about helping people build and maintain the strength, balance, mobility, and confidence needed for everyday life — whether that means competing in a Spartan race or simply continuing to lift, carry, walk, garden, work around the house, and live independently.

And strength training doesn’t always require a gym. Sometimes you use what you have — even a 5-gallon water jug on the farm!

Our goals may change throughout our lives, but the importance of staying strong doesn’t.

💙 Strong in movement. Stronger in life.

And at 94? We’d say she’s setting the bar pretty high.

There is no expiration date on getting stronger.

🐓💪 From the Barnyard to the Spartan Course!

This weekend, some of our Summit crew are heading to Seattle to take on a Spartan Race!

But their training ground hasn’t exactly been a traditional gym…

Welcome to the Barnyard Spartan. 😂

They’ve been putting the farm to work—hanging, carrying, lifting, climbing, running, and finding creative ways to prepare their bodies for whatever race day throws at them.

And really, that’s what functional strength is all about.

You don’t always need fancy equipment to get stronger. Training your body to push, pull, carry, grip, squat, climb, balance, and move through different environments builds strength that carries over into both sport and everyday life.

That’s also a big part of what we do in physical therapy. Whether you’re preparing for a Spartan Race, getting back on the hiking trail, working around the farm, or simply wanting to keep doing the things you love, PT can help identify what your body needs and build the strength, mobility, and capacity to get you there.

Now it’s time to put all that Barnyard Spartan training to the test!

Good luck to our Summit crew this weekend in Seattle! We’ll be cheering you on from Alaska! 💪🏔️

Because of Summit I can… take on a Spartan!

Your pelvic floor is about more than leaking—it’s about performance. 💪

Hiking farther. Gardening longer. Lifting stronger. Fishing all day. Keeping up with the activities you love.

Your pelvic floor works with your diaphragm, core, hips, and back to help manage pressure, create stability, and transfer force every time you move. And just like any other muscle, it needs the right combination of strength, coordination, endurance, and relaxation to perform at its best.

In our latest blog, Melissa breaks down:
• How the pelvic floor affects strength and movement
• Signs it may not be working as efficiently as it could
• Why Kegels aren’t always the answer
• Simple ways to start improving pelvic floor function

A stronger, better-coordinated pelvic floor can help you keep doing the things you love—with more confidence.

Paddle Boarding Balance Tip 🌊

Paddle boarding season is here!

One of the biggest mistakes beginners make is trying to stand up too quickly.

🏄‍♀️ Instead:
✅ Start on your knees.
✅ Find your balance first.
✅ Keep your eyes on the horizon.
✅ Engage your breath and core before standing.

Fun fact: Balance isn't just about your legs. Your breathing, core muscles, vision, and inner ear all work together to keep you upright.

If you feel unstable during outdoor activities or notice you're avoiding things you used to enjoy because of balance concerns, physical therapy can help.

Our goal is to keep you doing the things you love—whether that's paddle boarding, hiking, fishing, gardening, or exploring all that Homer has to offer.

Use Your Glutes, Save Your Knees

Planning to hit the trails this summer?

Whether you're hiking the hills around Homer or exploring farther into Alaska, your glutes are one of your best tools for protecting your knees.

💡 Hiking Tip:
When climbing downhill, think about lowering yourself with your glutes versus solely firing off those quads!

This helps:
✅ Improve stability
✅ Reduce knee strain
✅ Increase endurance on longer hikes

If your knees ache during or after hikes, it may not actually be a knee problem. Weak hips, poor balance, or movement patterns can all contribute.

Our team can help identify what's limiting your performance and get you back to enjoying Alaska's incredible trails.
