Therapists hold space for others every day —

But have you ever thought who holds space for them?

Here’s a peek into how I recover from the emotional weight of this work.

Your support system can look perfect on the outside and still be draining you on the inside. 🏡

I ask myself 3 questions to check in on the systems (relationships, teams, environments) I’m part of:

1️⃣ Quality — how does it feel, not just how does it look?
2️⃣ Cost — what am I giving vs. what am I getting? Is it mutual?
3️⃣ Strength — how much am I carrying? Can it actually hold me?

The white picket fence isn’t the goal. A system that’s honest, balanced, and sturdy is.

Which one hits different for you — quality, cost, or strength? 👇

(save this, you’ll need it)

I used to think I had to have it all figured out before I could show up. Turns out that’s backwards.

The messy middle — the doubt, the restarts, the “I have no idea what I’m doing” moments — that’s actually the part that helps someone else keep going.

You don’t inspire people by being perfect. You inspire them by being visible while you’re still figuring it out.

So this is me, not waiting until I “arrive” to take up space. If you’re watching this and you’re in your own messy middle right now — good. Keep going🫶🏾🫶🏾🫶🏾

Someone’s watching you the same way you’re watching me, even if you can’t see them yet.

Recently, I was invited to speak at a black law enforcement conference and prepared extensively.

In this clip, I discuss some of the research studies conducted after Furgerson’s events in 2014.

The results didn’t surprise me, and I felt compelled to share my perspective with this great group, considering what the black community has been experiencing.

Sometimes it’s easy. Sometimes it keeps you on your toes. That’s not a red flag — that’s what a real relationship actually looks like.

On this panel with MelaninCon ® we went in depth on this!

We’re so used to seeing the highlight reel that we forget relationships aren’t about finding someone who makes everything effortless. They’re about building something with someone who’s honest with you, and honest enough to call you higher. Someone who’s available — not just physically there, but emotionally present enough to face themselves, flaws and all.

That’s the part people skip when they talk about “the one.” It’s not about ease. It’s about two people willing to do the work, stay honest, and keep showing up — even on the days it’s hard.

If this resonated, I’d love to hear: what’s one thing you’ve learned that real love actually requires? 👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾

You don’t have to follow someone else’s timeline to have a meaningful life.

In a world that constantly measures success by milestones, it’s easy to lose sight of what actually matters—your values, your peace, and your well-being.

As a therapist, Im often reminded that alignment will always sustain you longer than comparison ever will. 👌🏾

Just because something is common doesn’t mean it’s necessary for you. 🤞🏾

Give yourself permission to define success on your own terms. Choose what feels right, not what looks right.

Your life is not behind—it’s simply your own. 🤍

Therapy isn’t a quick fix—it’s a process.
But within that process, you gain personalized guidance, a safe space to be heard, and practical tools to navigate life’s challenges and support long-term growth.

And just like anything else…
If it brings you peace, eases your mind, and feels safe—your body is already giving you the answer.

Not everyone who dislikes you is revealing something about you.

Sometimes… it’s revealing something about them.

You are not “too much” because someone couldn’t handle your truth.

You are not “hard to love” because someone didn’t know how to love you properly.

You are not the problem just because you weren’t accepted, chosen, or understood.

Let’s be clear—
being mistreated is not the same as being flawed.

Some people project.
Some people avoid depth.
Some people reject what they don’t understand.

And some people will treat you based on their wounds—not your worth.

So if you’ve been sitting with the belief,
“Maybe it’s me…”

Pause.

Yes, self-awareness matters.
Yes, growth is necessary.

But don’t shrink yourself trying to earn better treatment from people who were never equipped to give it in the first place.

The goal isn’t to become more acceptable.
It’s to become more aligned—and let the right people meet you there.
