Pilots, here's a frustrating one: you show up to your FAA medical feeling great, and your certificate still gets delayed because of one missing piece of paper.
Most of the time, that's preventable. Here's my quick pre-exam checklist:
✈️ Before your appointment
• Complete your application in MedXPress and bring the confirmation number. Your AME can't pull up your application without it.
• MedXPress applications stay active for 60 days, so book your exam soon after you submit.
• Have a current or past medical condition, or take any medications? Gather records ahead of time. For some conditions, the FAA wants a detailed clinical progress note from your treating doctor, from a visit within the last 90 days. A patient-portal "after visit summary" usually isn't enough.
✈️ Exam day
• Bring a government-issued photo ID.
• Wear or bring your glasses or contacts. Your vision will be tested.
• Expect vitals, vision and hearing checks, a urine sample, and an EKG if one is required for you.
According to the FAA, for some conditions an AME may be able to issue your certificate right at the exam if the correct documentation is there. Without it, things can get delayed.
At Milepost Medical, we offer Class 1, 2, and 3 FAA medical exams.
