Irlen Syndrome is a visual processing difficulty that affects around 15% of the general population including gifted students. The Irlen method can also help 46% of those with Dyslexia, reading problems, learning difficulties. Around 1/3 of those with ADD/ADHD and 1/2 of those with Autism and Asperger Syndrome can also benefit along with people suffering from concussions/headaches. The Irlen Method involves a set of procedures to find a particular color of overlay (clear plastic sheet) that alleviates visual distortions/brightness on the page when reading. The second stage of the Irlen Method is finding a precise Filter color (worn as glasses) that blocks the part of the light spectrum that is resulting in visual overload for that particular client. The spectral filters help alleviate light sensitivity and environmental problems such as visual distortions and depth perception issues. Services offered by this Clinic:

Irlen Screening (2 hours):
To find an overlay for reading

Irlen Consultation (1 hour):
For instance to specify colored paper for writing/math work. Irlen Filter Diagnostic (3 hours):
Session involves testing inside and outside to help alleviate environmental, light sensitivity and reading difficulties. Irlen Filter Check (2 hours):
To ensure filter color is up-to-date. Some medications and body changes such as puberty or illnesses can change the most effective color. Tutoring:

At the Krist Irlen Clinic (Houston/Galveston) we always check what has improved, since wearing the Irlen glasses, and whether this has led to any success stories. Max couldn’t read before getting his Irlen glasses, no wonder when letters moved and sentences looked like water! As he is also extremely light sensitive he could only see reflections rather than TV screens or computers, and the sun made it impossible for him to see a baseball before it almost hit him! So glad his world is now clear, steady and safe!

At the Krist Irlen Clinic (Houston/Galveston) we always check what has improved, since wearing the Irlen glasses, and whether this has led to any success stories. Irlen Syndrome creates an overactive visual cortex, which can produce symptoms similar to ADHD. Kala’s mom said ‘well since getting her Irlen glasses she doesn’t stand bent over the table and dance around it when trying to read!’ What a difference a calm brain makes!

At the Krist Irlen Clinic (Houston/Galveston) we always check what has improved, since wearing the Irlen glasses, and whether this has led to any success stories. Patrick’s issues were not just with words moving around and levitating as he tried to read! He also found it difficult to judge distances, and found visual information difficult to process. He was very relieved that his Irlen glasses helped with all of these issues!
