🔴 What Does “Healthy” Really Mean on Food Packages? 🛒🥗
🎯 The FDA has updated its definition of “healthy” for food labeling to better reflect current nutrition science🌿
🎯 To use the word “healthy” on a package, a food should now contain meaningful amounts of nutritious food groups such as:
📍 Fruits and vegetables
📍 Whole grains🌾
📍 Dairy🥛
📍 Protein foods🪧
📍 Nuts and seeds🥜
🔴 It must also stay within certain limits for:
📍 Added sugars🍭
📍 Sodium🧂
📍 Saturated fat🍜
🎯 Interestingly, foods such as eggs, salmon, nuts, seeds and olive oil may now qualify as “healthy” based on their overall nutritional value.🌿
🎯 At the same time, some highly sweetened cereals, yogurts and refined breads may no longer meet the criteria simply because they are fortified with vitamins.🚫
🔴 The takeaway:
❎ Don’t rely only on the word “healthy” printed on the front of a package❗
✅ Turn it over and check the Nutrition Facts and ingredient lis📃
🟢 Healthy eating is about your overall dietary pattern, not one marketing claim. ❤️
