We asked. They answered. This summer we interviewed Houston-area teens about they wish their parents knew. Join us for our Parenting Series: What Our Teenagers Are Experiencing on Tuesday, October 20th to find out what they told us about the pressure, the substances around them, and what they most want from the adults who love them. Hear the survey results, followed by a panel of experts and open Q&A. To register for this event or to learn more, please visit: https://www.councilonrecovery.org/event/parent-series-oct-2026/.

Have you met our Recovery Coaches?

Recovery is a journey, and no one should have to walk it alone.

Our Recovery Support Services (RSS) team is made up of Texas-certified Recovery Support Peer Specialists (commonly referred to as Recovery Coaches) who use their own lived experience, professional training, and passion for recovery to support others on their own journey.

So, what does a Recovery Coach do?

Recovery Coaches work one-on-one with individuals to identify their strengths, clarify their values, and set meaningful, attainable goals. They provide encouragement, hope, accountability, and connections to resources while supporting the whole person—including emotional, physical, social, occupational, intellectual, and spiritual wellness.

Most importantly, Recovery Coaches recognize that each person is the expert on their own life. Their role isn't to tell someone how to recover, but to walk alongside them, offer support and perspective, and help them build confidence as they create their own path forward.

Our RSS team brings years of personal recovery experience and a deep understanding of the courage and resilience it takes to move forward. We are proud of the work they do every day to help people find hope, connection, and a stronger foundation for recovery.

Join us in celebrating our incredible Recovery Coaches! 💙👏

Last week, members of The Council on Recovery team had the opportunity to attend the Texas Association of Addiction Professionals (TAAP) Conference!

Our staff spent the week learning, connecting with fellow professionals, and gaining valuable insights that will help us continue to strengthen the work we do in our community. We’re grateful for opportunities like this to grow our knowledge, share ideas, and bring new perspectives back to The Council.

Thank you to TAAP for another great conference and to everyone who made the week such a meaningful experience!

Don't forget to join us for our Evening With Tim Miller on Thursday, September 24, 2026.

Tim is the founder and director of Texas EquuSearch, an organization he created to help families search for missing loved ones after the tragic loss of his daughter, Laura.

While his work with Texas EquuSearch gave purpose to his grief, it wasn't until 2010 that Tim began his own journey of recovery. Today, he shares a powerful message of resilience, service, and hope—showing how recovery can transform even life's deepest pain into a life of purpose.
We hope you'll join us for this unforgettable evening.
