While car seat use on airplanes still isn't the norm, it's the safest way for babies and young children to fly!

Not only does using a car seat protect them in flight, it also ensures that their seat arrives with you, undamaged, at the destination.

While the thought can sound daunting, a little bit of preparation can have you on your way to a safer, more comfortable flight for you and your child!

My best advice for a smooth trip:

✈️ Know the policies and have them accessible, and know where your FAA approval label is on your seat!

✈️ Be confident but calm-- flight staff may have different levels of training or experience with car seat use, and you may need to stand your ground.

(pro tip: car seats do NOT have to be used forward-facing on US flights, they need to be used on forward-facing aircraft seats)

✈️ Don't let the airport be the first place you're trying to get your car seat on or off a car seat dolly

✈️ Don't let the plane be your first time installing the seat (and don't let the rental car be the first time you're installing it in a vehicle!)

Do you have hangups about flying with car seats? What advice would you share?

It's just not gonna happen. Hope you like deep dives!

Google and chatGPT won't always give you incorrect car seat information, but they might! In fact, these sources often do a decent job, but they're also really good at presenting incorrect information convinvingly.

It can be nearly impossible to tell when the information is correct, somewhat correct, or woefully incorrect, and that last category could mean you're getting dangerous advice.

The best source of information is your car seat's manual, or another source from the manufacturer. A CPST can also help you find and interpret the information, and provide hands-on help.

TL;DR- For accurate car seat information:
✅️ Your car seat's manual
✅️ Contacting the manufacturer directly or using a source directly from them such as FAQs or their videos
✅️ CPST

Rotating car seats are popular for their obvious purpose, but they can do much more than just take the strain off your back!

If you have an access problem in a car that's filling up, a rotating seat may be the solution, and may even prevent you from needing a new vehicle!💲One of those choices comes with a much bigger price tag than the other!💲

It's almost time! If you're planning to score a deal on a new car seat at the Target trade-in event, don't wing it!

Some seats generally go on sale, but they often sell out, so have your choices ready!

This can be a great opportunity to get a deal on a new car seat if you're in the market, but don't base your decision on a tempting price alone. The right seat for you in the one that:

✅️ Fits your child- now, and preferably in the long run! Get updated measurements and if you really want to do your research, cross-check their growth curve with the limits of the seat.

✅️ Fits your vehicle- Don't forget to consider the future! Is there enough room for the rear-facing recline? Will it work with your head rests in forward-facing mode? Will you need a slim seat for 3 across in a couple of years?

✅️ You can use correctly every time- Will you remember and commit to returning a rotating seat to a locked position when the child isn't in the seat? Do you need something with a tensioner to help you with the installation? Is the harness easy enough for you to pull tightly every time you buckle?

🚨Graco SnugRide Turn & Slide Recall!🚨

This recall announcement made its way around the internet a while ago, but the official NHTSA notice came out today.

This recall is ONLY for the Turn & Slide model, and ONLY affects the base. This is a stop use recall. Discontinue use of this base immediately. The carrier portion can still be safely installed with the vehicle seat belt.

As always, make sure your car seat is registered no matter what brand or model it is!

Have you heard all the fuss about head restraints in Car Seat Land? They're one of the biggest problems with car seat and vehicle compatibility, and a little-known one, at that!

When CPSTs say that the best car seat is the one that fits your child, fits your vehicle, and that you can use correctly every time, the head rest situation is a big component of "fits your vehicle."

Vehicle head rests that are angled forward were designed with adult safety in mind, but they can be a big issue for car seats and booster seats. Don't let this catch you by surprise!

Does your vehicle have problematic head rests? Have you learned this the hard way?

It's tiiiiime! It feels like we've been waiting on this announcement forever, but the Target Trade-In event is finally back!

This can be a great opportunity to get a deal on a new car seat if you're in the market, but don't base your decision on a tempting price alone.

👍Will several options work for you? Probably!

👍Will they keep your child safe? Yes, when used correctly!

👍Are there better choice for most individual situations that can end up saving you money in the long run? Usually!

Swipe to slide 2 for some important considerations. Plan ahead so you're not tempted into a deal that may not be the right deal for you!
