💙🩶 Healthy Employees Are Part of a Healthy Workplace.

💡 Did you know? An estimated 91.2 million U.S. adults, or 36.1%, had total cholesterol of 200 mg/dL or higher based on the latest available national data from 2021–2023.

High cholesterol often has no symptoms, which makes knowing your numbers especially important.

A few ways to support healthy cholesterol levels:

🥗 Choose foods lower in saturated fat and higher in fiber.
🏃 Stay physically active.
🚭 Avoid smoking and to***co.
🩺 Get your cholesterol checked and know your numbers.
💊 Follow your healthcare provider's recommendations if treatment is needed.

💙🩶 More Than a Job. A Bridge to Better Care.

Community Health Workers bring a unique set of skills to the healthcare workforce. They may help people navigate healthcare and social-service systems, connect with providers, provide referrals, conduct outreach, and help address barriers that can make it harder to access care.

That makes CHW work about more than healthcare knowledge. Communication, cultural competency, advocacy, service coordination, and community engagement are all valuable skills that strengthen the workforce.

It’s Community Health Worker Appreciation Week, and we're recognizing a workforce that plays an important role in helping people access care and navigate the systems that support their health.

💡 Did you know? HRSA projects that demand for Community Health Workers will increase by 11% by 2030, reaching approximately 67,560 workers nationwide. Rural communities in particular can benefit from strengthening their local health workforce.

💡 Did you know? Vaccination helps protect people from serious diseases and can also help reduce the spread of preventable illnesses in workplaces and communities.

💡 Did you know? A comprehensive eye exam can detect vision problems and may also help identify signs of certain health conditions before noticeable symptoms appear.

August is National Eye Exam Month, and regular eye exams are an important part of protecting your vision and overall health, both on and off the job.

For employees, good vision is especially important when working around machinery, tools, vehicles, chemicals, or other workplace hazards. And while protective eyewear helps prevent injuries, regular eye exams help make sure employees are seeing clearly and staying on top of their eye health.

☀️🦺 Sun Safety Is Workplace Safety 💙🩶

August is Summer Sun Safety Month, a good time to remember that UV exposure is a workplace hazard for employees who spend part of their day outdoors.

💡 Did you know? Long-term exposure to ultraviolet radiation can increase the risk of skin cancer, and workers who spend extended periods outdoors may have greater exposure than those who work primarily indoors.

Employers can help protect their teams by encouraging:

🧴 Broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher
👕 Protective clothing and wide-brimmed hats when appropriate
🕶️ UV-blocking sunglasses
🌳 Breaks in shaded areas when possible
💧 Plenty of water, especially during hot weather

At PPI, occupational health means looking at the whole workplace and the everyday hazards employees face. Prevention starts with recognizing the risks and giving people the tools to work safely.
