SkinPen season is officially open and if you've never done a series before, here's what actually happens.

It's not one appointment and done. It's a series, spaced 4–6 weeks apart, because each session builds on the collagen response from the last. Expect a few days of redness that looks like a sunburn, that's normal and not a problem. Real improvement shows at 4–6 weeks, with peak results 3–6 months out.

She came in for lip filler. She left without it.

Not because we ran out of time or something went wrong. Because we talked it through and I told her I didn't think it was the right call for her right now. So she got up, and she went home, and I didn't take her money. That appointment was $650.

Then she sent me this.

I turn someone away most months. Sometimes what they're asking for would look wrong on their face. Sometimes they're chasing something no injectable can reach, and the honest answer is sleep, or hormones, or a year that's been hard.

It is easily the least profitable thing I do. Nobody has ever built a practice on the appointments they declined.

But that's the trade. If I'll tell you no, my yes actually means something. You're not getting it because I have a slot to fill.

This one's for the men, and honestly, for the women who are going to send it to one.

There's a difference between getting older and something actually being off, and most men never get told what it is.

GETTING OLDER: recovery takes longer, you need real sleep, things shift gradually. All Normal.

SOMETHING'S OFF: you're bone tired by two in the afternoon. You're lifting the same and getting weaker. The brain fog. The drive that just isn't there. A mood you don't fully recognize as yours.

Testosterone and thyroid are all measurable. That's the whole point. You don't have to guess, and you don't have to work up to mentioning it at an annual physical where there are nine minutes on the clock.

This week marked one year of me doing this full time, and I've been thinking about what actually built it.

It wasn't a billboard. It wasn't Instagram. It was a woman telling her sister, her coworker, the person next to her at a volleyball game.

So here's the only ask I'll make all year.

Through August 31: if you send someone new my way, you'll each get $50 in credit. No code, no fine print, no expiration on the credit once it's there. They just mention your name.

Somebody asked me this last week and I've thought about it every day since.

"Is it bad that I want to do this just because I want to?"

She had a whole justification ready. A trip coming up, photos, something. Like she needed to file paperwork to explain why she'd want to feel good about her own face.

No. You don't need an occasion. Girl, DO IT FOR YOU !!!!

I think a lot of women, especially here, especially the ones who spend all day handling everyone else, have quietly decided that wanting something for themselves needs a permission slip signed by an external event.

It doesn't. "I wanted to" is a complete sentence.

And for what it's worth, the people who come in for themselves rather than for a photo are almost always happier with the outcome. Less pressure on it. More honest about what they actually want. You are reason enough!!!

One year ago today I went full time at Luxe.

Here's what a year actually taught me, in no particular order.

-That the consultation matters more than the injection.

-That the clients I turned away trust me more than the ones I said yes to.

-That nobody has ever once regretted starting conservative.

-That "natural" isn't a technique, it's a decision you make about when to stop.

-That a small town will absolutely tell each other the truth about you, which is the most honest performance review there is.

I'm spending today in Aberdeen, ninety miles north, seeing clients. Which feels about right for a one-year mark, no party, just the work.🤍

School is here. Can you believe it? Is anyone else in shock like I am ?

School starts around here, today for some, but for Huron on the 19th and there's a specific thing that happens to a woman's calendar that week.

It stops being hers. Double tap that heart if this totally resonates.

Practices, conferences, someone needs a poster board at nine at night, the fall sports schedule arrives and piano practice changed to ever Tuesday through November. None of it is bad. But time for you, it's just that the appointment you kept meaning to make becomes structurally harder to make.

I'm not telling you to book out of guilt. I'm telling you that the next four days are quieter than the next four months, and that's just true.

The women who look rested this fall aren't more disciplined than you. They just went earlier. Give yourself a moment of calm before the storm. 🤍
