We’ve got all the feels reading this back to school message from former patient, now DPT student, Allison…

“Reflecting on today, starting my 2nd year of PT school, my last 1st day of school, I can’t help but be so grateful!! I wouldn’t be here [without] you guys. You were the reason I fell in love with this amazing profession!! It’s crazy to think across the journey, from little me coming with my mom to her appointments before Team Iowa even opened, to that spark I had that continued to grow through my own injuries, leading me to this university, this program.

The highest highs and lowest lows throughout my first year of the program, to now where I was able to give my advice and encouragement to my 3 roommates who started their own 2.5 year journey today.

If it wasn’t for you guys, I don’t know where I would be today, not just academically but in all aspects of my life! If it weren’t for all of your help through the years, I don’t think I would be here today as one of the top runners in school history and having my racing debut this weekend as part of an elite team in the community!!”

Having student interns has always been a priority at Team Iowa. Giving back to the profession through mentorship, investing our time and energy into the future of the profession, is vital to our mission.

Challenging our therapists to not only know how to treat patients, but how to teach what they do, keeps us all at the top of our professional game.

Aislinn, a UIowa PTRS Dept. student, recently completed her 12 week internship with Kayli. We asked Kayli what she enjoys about having student interns work alongside her and here’s what she had to say:

“I enjoy being in a teaching role but I think my favorite part is watching them grow their skill set and become independent with seeing patients. It is so fun to watch them establish relationships and trust with the patients they see week after week!” -Kayli

Last Friday was Mitch Day. From matching Mitch shirts, to a visit from the Moo Moo mobile and all of the reminiscing in between, the day was a well deserved celebration of all that is Mitch.

Today Mitch starts his DPT journey at UIowa PTRS Dept. . We are so proud and excited for this next chapter and grateful for all that he has done for our team and our patients over the past three and a half years.

Yes, he has been a tech, but his impact has gone far beyond that. He’s a friend to all, jack of all trades, furniture builder, raccoon wrangler, taste testing aficionado, GIF guy, jujitsu teaching master, fishing expert and so much more. Most importantly- he approaches all of these things with the kindest soul and best attitude.

Mitch- thank you for all that you have done for our team, our patients and our community. We appreciate you and wish you the best on this next adventure.
