Statistics show that 1 in 4 Americans fall every year and 20% of them become injured from that fall.

A World War II veteran who just moved into Good Samaritan Society - New Underwood is happiest sharing his Army stories with others. Paul Priest landed in France on Christmas Day of 1944, his 19th birthday. The infantryman helped secure the Ludendorff Bridge on the Rhine River in 1945.

Now, Paul lives an active life where he enjoys helping the team decorate a patriotic garden and chatting with friends. When people show gratitude for his military service, he adds it “makes me feel good. That I’m doing something for somebody."

Leah Renfro made the move to assisted living after a fall led to a hospital stay. Her previous home had a lot of stairs and her doctor recommended living somewhere with one level.

She and her husband found Prairie West at Good Samaritan - Ellsworth in Ellsworth, Kansas. They moved in over two years ago and enjoy the view from their apartment, which overlooks pastureland.

“It’s a home away from home. We call it our nest,” says Leah. “We never get tired of looking out the window at God’s creation.”

One of their favorite activities is keeping up with their 16 grandkids. They like taking walks and looking at the flowers.

They’re involved in Bible study and enjoy the pastor who leads it. It gives them joy knowing the trials on earth are temporary and they have a home in heaven prepared for them. They also like when children come to visit. Sometimes they sing and play games with the residents.

“It gives us (moms) a connection with the things we hold dear,” says Leah.

Happy 105th birthday to Anita from Good Samaritan Society - Grand Island Village 🎉👑

When asked about the secret to a long life, her answer is simple: "the peace of God in your heart," shared Anita. Family and friends gathered last week to celebrate her and sing hymns together.

For decades, Johnny Holm Band has entertained crowds across the Upper Midwest. But a recent performance may be one of the most meaningful yet.

Pam's Café, the title track from a newly released album, tells the story of Johnny's many stops at a truck stop café along I-94 while traveling to and from gigs. Johnny recently visited Good Samaritan Society-Battle Lake, where Pam, the former café owner who inspired the song, now lives, and performed it just for her.

Good Samaritan Society - Jackson the Pines residents and guests not only learned what's happening at the upcoming Jackson County Fair, they were treated to their own petting zoo! 🐐

Thank you to Taylor Fields and family for bringing goats, bunnies, kittens, chickens and a whole lot of fun to The Pines! And shout out to Sandy Phillips from the fair board for sharing all the fair info. A great time was had by all!

Residents, guests and staff had a fun afternoon with a "Float Off to Summer" party, complete with summer themed decorations, assorted floats and fun summer prizes for Bingo!

Our wonderful administrator, Angela, created a "float cart" and personally delivered floats to anyone not in attendance. GREAT start to a wonderful summer at The Pines!

We are excited to share that The Pines Assisted Living at Good Samaritan Society – Jackson received the 2026 Bronze – Commitment in Quality Award! We are so proud of our team for their dedication to providing quality, person-centered care to our residents.

This year, 893 long-term care providers in all 50 states achieved a Bronze National Quality Award. Bronze recipients may now move forward to the Silver – Achievement in Quality award criteria. The awards will be presented during AHCA/NCAL’s Convention & Expo Oct. 11-14 in Boston.
