🚗💨To the outside world, a person with this theme of OCD might just look like they are turning the car around to double-check a street they just drove down. They might look a little distracted or anxious.
But inside their mind, a terrifying battle is happening.
This is a common manifestation referred to as hit and run OCD. It takes a normal, everyday occurrence—like hitting a pothole or hearing a loud bump—and turns it into a horrific “what if.”

This painting holds a lot of emotions.
I did this at a hospital 6 years ago. This was just 2 weeks after I gave birth to my daughter.
I’ve had OCD since around age ten but it always showed up in various other themes.
Once I got pregnant, the intrusive thoughts were becoming scary and debilitating. At that time my therapist did say she treated OCD, however I was utilizing techniques for anxiety… and we know how that goes.
After I gave birth, I was too scared to be alone with my daughter. Intrusive thoughts, images, commands haunted my every waking moment.
At different points of the day, I’d just be curled up in a ball.. scared to move.
A lot of people don’t talk about the grief part of OCD. Sometimes when I look back at pictures of me holding my daughter, I wish I could go back..
go back and actually fully experience those moments and be present.
I’m grateful for my therapist I sought out after the hospital. I’m here to say that ERP allowed me to have my life back.
