Happy Juneteenth!

โ€œJuneteenth has never been a celebration of victory, or an acceptance of the way things are. Instead, it's a celebration of progress. It's an affirmation that despite the most painful parts of our history, things do get better.โ€ - Barack Obama ๐Ÿ’šโค๏ธ๐Ÿ–ค

Thank you to the Arkansas State Conference NAACP for inviting Matthew Lloyd, LPC-S, RPT, Ed.S. to be part of this important discussion on Black men's mental health. We appreciate the opportunity to serve and share!

๐Ÿง  Black Men's Mental Health Matters
JOIN THE DISCUSSION THIS MORNING

In Arkansas, approximately 1 in 4 adults experiences a mental health condition each year. Nationally, an estimated 20% of Black adults experience a mental illness annually, yet Black men are among the least likely groups to seek mental health treatment.

Among young Black men ages 18โ€“25, mental health challenges are especially concerning, with nearly 1 in 3 young adults reporting symptoms associated with a mental health condition each year.

About 20โ€“25% of adults in Arkansas report having a mental health condition each year.

Arkansas consistently ranks among states with higher rates of mental health challenges and limited access to providers.

Specific data for Black males in Arkansas is limited, but experts estimate rates are similar to or slightly higher than national averages due to economic, healthcare access, and social stress factors.

It's time to break the stigma. Strength is not suffering in silence. Strength is seeking support, having honest conversations, and prioritizing mental wellness.

๐Ÿ’™ Check on the Black men and boys in your life. ๐Ÿ’™ Listen without judgment. ๐Ÿ’™ Encourage support and healing.

Mental health is health.
